National Conference on Third Sector - Response to Contemperory Challenges

Day 1

Sahyadri College of Management & Sciences in association with the department of MBA, organized a two days National Conference on “Third Sector Response to Contemporary Challenges”. Prof. Sundaresh Heragu, Professor, Department of Industrial Engineering, Director, Logistics and Distribution Institute, University of Louisville, USA inaugurated and delivered the Key note address. In his address, he gave a panorama and condition of India’s third sector. He also narrated that the third sector plays noteworthy role in making nation’s economy vibrant, because this sector is considered as a voluntary sector. At present in the fast changing scenario, the condition and position of India has been drastically changing. The all credit goes to NGOs. He also appreciated with the heart and soul the infrastructure, the facilities and hospitality of the college. The Chief Guest Mr. Dasaiah, Deputy General Manager, canara bank,Circle office, Mangalore threw light on the contributions of NGOs and self help groups in growing Indian economy. He appreciated the organizers for arranging the national conference on third sector. He released the soft copy of the research papers to be presented in the conference. Dr. D.L.Prabhakara, the director, presided over the function. principal Dr. Umesh Bhushi welcomed and introduced the dignitaries of the august house.
Various technical sessions were held on different themes and this was followed by paper presentations.

Sahyadri Springs unveiled
Today is really an incredible and indelible day in the pages of Sahyadri, which is always known for its commitment in giving justice to the potentialities of students. Keeping these aspects in mind, the college has taken initiative in bringing out e-magazine- “Sahyadri Springs”, which includes articles, poems, short stories, essays, photographs, art works etc. The magazine will be brought out bi-monthly. Prof. Sundaresh Heragu unveiled the e-Magazine, “Sahyadri Springs”. In his address, he advised the students that it is truly a commendable initiative of the institution in exploring the talents of the students. The students should make use of such platforms to give justice to one’s potentiality. He greeted the chairman, Mr. Mannjunath Bhandary for his outstanding vision in the field of education and conveyed his best wishes in his endeavor. Dr. D.L. Prabhakara, Dr. M.S.Moodithaya, Director-Global Initiatives, Nitte University, Dr. A.P.Achar shared the dais.

Day 2

Prof. P.S.Yadapadithaya, Registrar, Evaluation, Mangalore University was the Chief Guest. In his address, he appealed to the distinguished delegates that in the fast changing world try to involve in the social development apart from their academic activities. Only then true empowerment of society is possible. Shri Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Sahyadri Group of institutions addressed the conference; in his address he suggested the delegates that academicians are true framers of policies, Government only executes it. Institution is always leading from the front in organizing such kind of programme. 

Prof. Irene Vegias, Principal, Sahyadri Institute of Health Sciences presided over the function. Dr. D.L.Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions was present on this occasion  Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management welcomed the gathering. Prof. Sunitha, Principal Sahyadri College of Management & Sciences proposed the Vote of Thanks.

During the conference, a number of technical sessions were held by various resource persons on diverse topics such as Social Entrepreneurship, Third-sector-Indian perspective, Corporate Social responsibility, Women Empowerment and Corporate Governance and Leadership.

In response to the call of papers for the conference, about 60 papers from various corners of the country were received and were presented in a two day long conference. Selected papers will be compiled and will be published in the form of a book with ISBN.

The participants expressed their great sense of appreciation regarding the conference, hospitality and also about the infrastructure and facilities provided by the college.
