Guest Lecture on “Wonders of Cosmos” by Dr. A. P. Bhat
The Science Club of Sahyadri P.U. College organized a guest lecture on “Wonders of Cosmos” by eminent astrophysics expert, Prof. Dr. A. P. Bhat of Poornaprajna College, Udupi, to mark the beginning of its activities for the current academic year. Dr. Umesh Bhushi, Principal of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, in his address, observed that Science Club activities help students to develop diversified thought processes and enable them to experience the true pleasure of learning. Mr. Naveen S. A., Principal, Sahyadri P.U. College, in his prefatory remarks, illustrated that man’s sense of wonder led to the origin of science and stressed the importance of the scientific temperament. Dr. Bhat made a comprehensive presentation which could appeal even to a lay audience. He traced the entire gamut of knowledge on cosmology by touching upon concepts like origin of the universe, solar system, formation of stars, supernova, path breaking findings, dark matter, bosons, and current space research programs. He informed the students about the exciting courses being offered by premier institutes like IISc, IIST and advised them to take up courses in basic sciences. He even suggested to the college authorities to set up an amateur sky watching facility on the campus. The programme was organized by Mr. Ashwin Kumar, Lecturer of Chemistry and Coordinator of the Science Club.
