ACTIVITIES :

The Foundation every year organizes a National level HIV/AIDS conference at Mangalore for student nurses and the faculty of Nursing Colleges. During the year 2005 this conference was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. S. M. Krishna, then Governor of Maharashtra and attended by representatives from Bill Gates Foundation, UN Aides and other distinguished personalities who are related to this field.

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management Signs MoU with IIIT-A for Academic Co-operation

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, a unit of the Bhandary Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad (IIIT-A) on Monday,15 June. The signing was held at the seminar hall of the Sahyadri Institute in Adyar in the presence of Dr M.D Tiwari, Director of IIIT-Allahabad, Manjunath Bhandary, chairman of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, and principal and administrator of the institute Dr D L Prabhakara. Briefing the media, Dr Tiwari said, "The academic tie-up with IIIT-A will help the students and the faculty get the benefits of an IIIT level education and also help in academic and educational co-operation and to promote mutual understanding between the two institutions.

Benefits of MoU:

Dr Tiwari said that the benefits include studying with mini-projects during summer and winter vacations as well as participation in the placement pool of IIIT-A besides participating in the campus selection at Allahabad. He added that the faculty members can attend development programmes such as workshops, seminars, conferences, conducted at the Allahabad campus. Expressing happiness over his visit to the Sahyadri Institute, Dr Tiwari said that the institute would achieve a top place within five years and added that this was the first in Karnataka state to enter into an MoU with IIIT-A. He also said that our institution has qualified and experienced professionals and senior faculty members of whom many are from reputed institutions like IITs, IISC, and NITs .

The institute is going to achieve academic excellence with many plans to tie-up with premier institutions like IITs, IIIs, and NITs, said Manjunath Bhandary. He also said that it was a dream came true to sign the MoU. The IIIT-A was ranked 8th in the country after the IIT's in India and also ranked 11th by Nasscom-Dataquest and placed fourth in placements list by the same. The IIIT-A was established by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, and has deemed university status from the government. It has collaborations with premier institutions and organizations across the world.

College Cultural Activities

It's our quest for excellence to develop skills of organizing, co-coordinating and executing in young Sahyadrians, so that learning moves beyond the confines of the four walls, to make learning experiential. This, along with the joy of providing platforms for the expression of vibrant and abundant talent is being encouraged at Sahyadri, as we believe 'All work and no entertainment make Jack a dull boy'.

Cultural activities for this academic year were formally inaugurated on 20th October, 2008.

We have organized various competitions for students within the college like singing (solo & group), dancing (solo & group), drawing, rangoli, variety entertainment, quiz, elocution, debate, cooking, etc

Equal importance was given to invoke Patriotism in our young minds, as a part we have celebrated Independence Day, Kannada Rajyotsava, Republic Day. Great leaders like Dr. K. M. Subbarao, chairman national youth project were invited to address our students.

Foundation day was celebrated on November 18th, 2008. Our college team has also participated in various inter-collegiate cultural competitions, many TV auditions and also won prizes and appreciation.

Annual College Day Celebrations - 2008

Equal importance for extra curricular is given at Sahyadri Engg. College, we have celebrated our first Annual Day on 30-04-2008 at Sahyadri Campus. The Chief Guests were Dr. H. P. Kincha Honourable vice chancellor, VTU, Belgaum, Dr. Rame Gowda,former chairman, AICTE and former Vice Chancellor, Karnataka University and Dr. Sandeep Sanchetti, Director NITK Surathkal. On this occasion meritorious students were felicitated. The inauguration was followed by cultural activities.

Annual College Day Celebrations - 2009

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management's 2nd Annual Day Celebrations were held on 21-03-2009 at Sahyadri Campus. The Chief Guests were Mr. K. Laxmi Narayana, GGM, MRPL and Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni, Principal, NMAMIT, College of Engineering, Nitte. Speaking on the occasion Mr. K. Laxmi Narayana emphasized the need for positive attitude and constructive thinking. He also spoke on good combination in life. Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni was happy about the institution has grown to be a household name in a span of 2 years. Independence Day Celebration at Sahyadri

On 15th August, 2009 Independence Day was celebrated at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. The national flag was hoisted by the Principal & Director Dr. D.L. Prabhakara. TOXICS, the Association of CS and IS Inaugurated

Inauguration of the activities of TOXICS (Technically Outstanding Experts of Information & Computer Science Engineering Students), an association of Computer Science & Information Science students for the academic year 2009-10 was held on 7 Sept, 2009 at the college Seminar hall. On this occasion the freshers were welcomed to their respective branches by the senior students of Computer Science & Information Science. The programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Thanuja G. R., Technical Evangelist, Infosys Technologies, Mangalore. Addressing the students on 'Importance of Soft Skills in the Present Scenario and Current trends in Job market', Mrs. Thanuja said that the computer career avenues have undergone some dramatic changes in the last year. The present recession was preceded by the great boom in the field of computer industry. In spite of the recession there is a great demand for computer professionals even today. However, she added, the employability of the students depends upon a variety of factors including their level of written and oral communication skills, interview skills and their specialization. Speaking about the influence of Information Technology, she observed that even the students graduating from the Science and Arts streams need to equip themselves with Computer knowledge. Dr. Ravikumar H. M., Prof. & Head, Dept. of Electronics and communication presided over the function. In his Presidential address, he spoke about the different ways to make a student industry-ready. Dr. Nagesh H. R., Prof. & Head, Dept. of CSE/ISE & President of TOXICS welcomed the freshers to their respective branches and spoke about the importance of academic preparation and specialization.

VISITS :

Visit of Dr. Sridhar S Condoor, Professor , University of St. Louis , St.Louis , USA

Dr. Sridhar S. Condoor, the Professor of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, St. Louis University, St.Louis, America visited Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management on 13 July, 2009 and addressed the student and teaching community. On this occasion, he held deliberations on establishing an academic co-operation between St. Louis University & Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. The proposed tie-up is considered to be highly beneficial to both the teaching fraternity and the students. Prof. Condoor who briefed the gathering about the research and development works in technology in St. Louis University, welcomed the proposed exchange between the two institutions. Lauding the infrastructure and faculty expertise at Sahyadri, he called upon the students to 'dream big', 'to think globally and act locally' and be excited about their work. He underlined the importance of marketing the ideas and try newer things without the fear of failure.

Presiding over the function, the Chairman of Bhandary Foundation , Mr. Manjunath Bhandary promised all the support to the proposed interaction, academic & research co-operation between St. Louis University and Sahyadri College and called upon the students to get benefitted from this.

Dr. D.L. Prabhakara, the Principal of the College briefed about the growth of the college and the milestones achieved by it.

Dr. A.J. Antony, the Vice Principal and head of the department of Mechanical Engineering welcomed. Prof. S.S. Balakrishna, Dean and Professor of Mechanical Engineering proposed the vote of thanks. Visit of Commander K.M.Ajay@Sahyadri

Commander K.M.Ajay, Principal Secretariat, Indian Naval Academy visited Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management on 7th April,2010. He had lengthy discussions about Academics with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Principal & Director Dr. D. L. Prabhakara & various key functionaries. He also visited the laboratories of all the Departments.

Visit of Sahyadri Team to IIIT Allahabad

Sahyadri team headed by Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and Dr. D.L.Prabhakara visited Indian Institute of Technology- Allahabad (IIITA) on 5 June 2009. Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management has tied up with Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) - Alahabad and the IIIT-A has agreed to adopt Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.

Sahyadri Students Selected for Training at IIIT Allahabad

In continuation of the MoU between Sahyadri College of Engineering & Mangagement and Indian Institute of Information Technology - Allahabad, 12 Students of 4th semester and 5 faculty members from our institute are visiting IIIT,Allahabad. Since they have to undergo training in inter-disciplinary areas, students from Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering have been selected. The selection of students is purely based on the academic performance of the students in the first three semesters of B.E Course.The students will continue to do their project work during their vacations from 5th semester to 8th Semester.
