A Webinar on India’s First Leadership Talk Series was organized by MHRD – Institution Innovation Cell on 6th June’2020, with Ms. Ashwini Deshpande, Co-Founder & Director, Elephant Design. Dr. Abhay Jere, Chief Innovation Officer, MHRD Innovation Cell was the moderator.
A 1989 graduate of National Institute of Design, Ms. Ashwini Deshpande leads Elephant, India's largest independent integrated design consultancy, along with 2 co-founders. Elephant was ranked as No 1 Design Agency by The Economic Times Brand Equity reckoner in consistently including 2019.
Ms. Deshpande’s recent speaking engagements include UN Global Compact Network leadership programme, a Keynote at Design Congress in Puebla, Mexico & International Design Congress at Gwangju, Korea. Dr. Jere has an industrial experience of 12+ years, and a research experience of 7 years including 5 doctoral and 2 post-doctoral. His goal is to pursue career in Industry R&D.
Ms Ashwini Deshpande and Dr Abhay Jere had a brainstorming discussion on the need of knowing Design. She highlighted why knowing design is important as we use so many products in our day today life. This talk also highlighted the importance of being creative and facing challenges which will bring in more creative designs. It includes being creative and analytical.
Success in Design depends on one being optimistic and not relying on what people's mindset is, she said. So there is a lot of scope, provided one has a determination to take up the challenge and do something innovative.
Another aspect of the discussion was about failures that lead to success. There are failures in every path, she said, but we learn from our failures which prompt us to be successful.
Talking about the COVID-19 and its impact on the world, she stated that Post Covid world would depend on probability and trying different methods to reach normalcy. She urged developing of skills and being consistent in one’s approach. This will help one reach the fullest potential.
Overall it was a productive and efficient session encouraging students to keep doing the best.

Symposium on “Pathway to Excellence in Finance” organised by Dept. of Business Administration-MBA

The MBAs were addressed by finance professionals on 6th June, 2020, as part of the symposium. The first session was facilitated by Mr. Powdhan Shetty, Branch Manager at Anand Rathi Shares & Stock Brokers Ltd. He threw light on various dimensions of career in finance. He said ‘MBA is not just a way to earn a degree, but a way to learn realities of life.’ In his concluding remarks, he asked the students to be unique from the rest of the crowd to meet the challenges of the market.
The second session was facilitated by Mr. Kiran Kumar, Territory Manager at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance. He shared his own experience and gave insights on how to understand one’s weakness and work on it to make a bright career in finance.
The last session was facilitated by Mr. Achutha Shenoy, Audit Associate at KPMG-GDC. He touched upon various aspects of finance and gave students insights on importance of value added course, certification programmes and most importantly the significance of analytical skills in finance. He tried his best to answer all queries of students and in his concluding remarks he asked the students to become industry ready by acquiring the required skill-sets.

DreamWorks Makerspace organised an Online Workshop series on “3D Printing Technology”

DreamWorks Makerspace organised an Online Workshop series with the theme “3D Printing Technology”. There were two workshops under the theme, the first workshop of the series being “3D Modelling with Onshape”, which was held on 3rd June 2020. This mainly focused on getting students to learn the design tools with the help of a designing software, Onshape.
The workshop thrived in helping on design and model 3D structures with Onshape, built from the ground up to enable efficient design processes. It was a continuous 3 hour hands on workshop which started out with a basic introduction of the topic in a real time perspective after which the participants had to design a 3D model simultaneously during the session with the help of the instructor. The second workshop titled “3D Printing for Beginners” was conducted on 4th June 2020, for those who wanted to explore 3D Printing from scratch. This workshop was purely based on the technology that is used by 3D printers and also introducing them to CURA software which is used in 3D printing technology.
The workshop helps one to uncover the concept of understanding the seamless CAD integration and the power of 3D printing for prototyping, thus, enabling one to come up with products which are faster and efficient. It was also a continuous 3 hour hands on workshop which began with an introduction, followed up with an overview of 3D Printing Technology and its design perspective in real time applications.
The entire Workshop series was a step forward in reshaping students into becoming Young Makers, who would further grow to become problem solvers helping the society. It not only gave an opportunity to help them learn but also understand the opportunities in the field of 3D Printing Technology. At the end, all the participants were provided with E-Certificates as an appreciation of them being a part of this venture, to learn, create and share.
