International Yoga Day at Sahyadri

International Yoga Day was observed at the Campus. Mr. Govind Prabhu, Retd. Senior Manger, Karnataka Bank Ltd. delivered the talk on “Yoga for Health” and demonstrated the same. The meaning of the word Yoga is "Union". It is derived from the Sanskrit root "yuj," meaning to join, or to unite. International yoga day is celebrated on the 21st of June every year as it is the longest day of the year. It is celebrated in 177 countries practicing 3S program – Swatch (Cleanliness), Swasth (Healthy) and Samarth (Wealthy). Yoga makes us to live in the present. Ashtanga Yoga is most widely practiced everywhere of which, Maharishi Patanjali is the founder. Yoga teaches us four basic principles Yama, Niyama, Asana & Pranayama. Mr. Govind Prabhu, served in the banking industry for 41 years. During his stay at Rajasthan in 1997 he met Baba Ram Dev and learnt Yoga. Today, he is Dakshina Kannada Unit Patanjali Yoga Samiti – Treasurer. He is a certified trainer and conducts yoga classes at various reputed institutions in and around Mangalore. He expressed his happiness and appreciated the initiatives taken at Sahyadri to promote yoga. Dr. C K Manjunath, Administrator Welcomed and introduced the guest to the gathering, Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal presided over the function and gave his presidential remarks.
