Faculty Members visit St. John’s Medical College and Research Center to Foster Research Collaborations

Dr. Shreyas Rao, Associate Professor & Dr. Srinath M, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering visited St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences on 12th March’2020.
The purpose of the visit is to foster Research Collaborations in terms of Proposal Writing, Publications, and Consultancy Opportunities. They interacted with the Faculty members from the Dept. of Community Medicine and Dept. of Medical Informatics & Innovations.
Dr. Deepthi Shanbhag, Associate Professor in the Dept. of Community Medicine at St John’s Medical College spoke on the immediate need to create a “Livelihood for the Disabled” and stressed that it is an open area of research which is not yet fully explored by Indian researchers. She stressed on the need to innovate quality products with reference to mental disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy and Muscular Dystrophy that limit the individual from undertaking regular activities.
Dr. Shanbhag was happy to learn about the various innovative activities conducted at Sahyadri and committed to collaborate with Sahyadri and take the relationship forward in exploring potential solutions pertaining to her research area.
Dr. Abijeet V Waghmare, Manager and Dr. Dhinagaran, Senior Researcher - Medical Informatics and Innovations Dept. at St. Johns Research Institute, apprised on the several innovations conducted at their Center such as:
• “E-Punarchetana” an EMR Automation System;
• “CHITRA” a Mobile App that monitors the quality of ICU patients;
• Patches for cardiac patients that monitors the heart etc.
They sought Sahyadri’s help in the areas of flexible and wearable electronics, relating to healthcare. Sahyadri has assured that they would connect them to the relevant in-house company at Sahyadri that works on flexible electronics to take the relationship forward. The faculty members also promised to showcase Sahyadri’s product innovation capabilities in the next meeting.
Overall, the visit to St. Johns Medical College and Research Center opened up new research possibilities to collaboratively work in the areas of Community Healthcare, Disability, and Medical Informatics. Ms. Sandhya, a Research Scholar at St. Johns’ and a relative of Dr. Shreyas facilitated the interaction.
