Team ‘Lowen Women’ of Sahyadri comes up with an Innovative Idea for Dysmenorrhea

Social Innovation Program is an initiative taken up at Sahyadri for the First Year students to envisage their Innovative Thinking abilities and nurture it towards the betterment of society. Through the program, students are introduced to community problems through a design thinking approach and encouraged to come up with viable solutions and convert them to sustainable projects or be deployed as a full-scale product.
Team ‘Lowen Women’ with members Ayeesha Rasha, Dharithri Rai, Krithika Shetty and Preksha Alva of First Year Section ‘E’ have come up with an Innovative Idea for Dysmenorrhea (Painful Periods). With primary focus on the Health Sector, the team delved into an issue of concern faced by close to 10 out of 100 women, i.e. Menstrual Pain which leaves a profound negative impact on the lives of these women.
After going through the design thinking process and meeting with experts through the Social Innovation Program, the team came up with the idea of a Dysmenorrhea Massager Belt to ease the pain through a Heating Mechanism. With the help of the Massager the team hopes to lessen the burden of menstrual pain and help reduce the increasing impact of Periods on the women’s daily lives. The idea has completed the Prototype Stage and is undergoing a test phase for further improvement and implementation.
This is a glorious moment for Sahyadri as it has reached a higher level in the field of innovation. Moreover, it’s a gateway for the budding juniors to join our institution and explore a world of new possibilities and adventures.
