Team ‘Innovative 5’ looks into the availability of Machinery for Agriculturists

Social Innovation Program is an initiative taken up for the First Year students to envisage their Innovative Thinking abilities. During the course of the program students interact with the community and get an understanding of their problems through multiple field visits so that the teams can come up with implementable solutions for the same.
Team ‘Innovative 5’ with members Abhishek Pai, Shreenanda, Pratheek T. and Abhilash A.L. of First Year, ‘H’ Section looked into the availability of Machinery for Agriculturists. Due to lack of labour force and the increasing charges levied based on hours of work, farmers depend on renting out machinery in order to cut down on the tasks.
Most of the farmers in the Dakshina Kannada region do not have large fields. They grow crops on a small scale. After conducting multiple surveys in the course of the Social Innovation Program the team realised that only 25% of the farmers in Dakshina Kannada have more than 10 acres land and a mere 14.3% of the farmers own agricultural machinery.
Team ‘Innovative 5’ sought to change that and came up with an idea of creating a platform for both lenders as well as Agriculturists making the process of renting more transparent and easily accessible to both parties.
The platform Rentitagro brings together verified vendors as well as farmers onto an online platform creating an accessible channel where each member can easily place an order and choose from a variety of machinery without having to personally visit. The idea is in its prototype stage.
