He remembered his Guru, Sanjay Sahay Retd IPS, ADGP, who used to tell “Hacking is the new NORMAL” which meant that Hacking was very normal and most of the top companies were compromised of its data with or without their notice. He continued by sharing few statistics on how much data flow took place every minute in the internet and the difference sources through which data was openly available for anyone who tried to explore about any person. This was because; most of us leave enough digital footprints on the web.
He explained what OSINT (Open source intelligence) is and the various forms in which information was available in the public domain or accessible from public sources. He also explained the many ways in which professionals such as Information security, private investigators, law enforcement, military, business, attorneys, etc could leverage OSINT data.
He also briefed as to how by using the right tools and resources one could collect OSINT data. Then with help of wonderful examples, he explained the OSINT process which included identifying the source, harvesting, Data processing, analysis and reporting. While explaining how to do ‘Google dork like a pro hacker’, he left the audience awestruck by demonstrating how much of data can be extracted using the right tools and easily available websites. He showed the top OSINT tools where we can find sensitive public information before the hackers could find out but to be aware of the honey pot.
It was an informative session and the audience virtually applauded the same. The session ended at 12:30pm with certain question and answers.
