Team ‘Res Novae’ sets out to solve a Personal Problem faced by Students Enrolling into Colleges

Social Innovation Program for First Year students at Sahyadri encourages students to start as change makers at the very beginning of the course, instilling in them the courage to become problem solvers instead of seeking readymade solutions.
With Empathy and Design Thinking at the core of the course, Social Innovation Program initiates the culture of identifying a problem, brainstorming ideas and collectively bringing solutions to life.
Keerthi Kamath, Ullas Hegde, Soumya Girish Hegde, Mohammed Harun, John Kirthan and Aditya Pathania of Team ‘Res Novae’ set out to solve a very personal problem faced by students hailing from different cultures enrolling into colleges far away from home; the feeling of isolation and the inability to adjust to a new environment. Not all students can cope with change and often find themselves in need of counselling as it has a negative impact on their mental health.
Team ‘Res Novae’, during the course of the Social Innovation Program, interacted with experts from various colleges as well as in-house counsellors to understand the gravity of the problem.
The Team came up with an idea of ‘Res Novae’, through which students can interact with the seniors and counsellors without the need to be physically present, i.e. through Chat and a Discussion Forum. They hope to create a supportive and encouraging community to reassure their fellow mates and make them feel at home. ‘Res Novae’ has completed its prototyping stage and is being developed for future implementation.
