Director-MBA invited as the Chief Guest and Student Counsellor as the Resource Person at FDP organized by GFGC Punjalakatte

Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Ceremony of the Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Scientific Thinking and Counselling Skills for Teachers” at Govt. First Grade College, Punjalakatte. In her Key note address she said - Scientific thinking is not only for scientists. When one practices the methods of scientific thinking, one is practicing critical thinking.
Critical thinking is thinking correctly for oneself which will lead to the most reliable answers to questions and solutions to problems. She also mentioned that students spend half their growing years in school and college. Hence Teachers have a significant role to play in shaping the personality of the students. While school counsellors are trained to address a range of issues such as broken relationships, strained relationships with parents, self-esteem, addiction and thoughts of suicide or potential career paths, a teacher is in constant touch with the students and can also initiate conversations and encourage students to open up. This makes the role of a counsellor important in an academic set up, and teachers can become the primary source of on-campus support for the students.
Prof. Ankith S Kumar, Counsellor was the resource person for the session on “Scientific Thinking and relevance of ancient rituals in Modern times”. He spoke about the importance of having cultural competency among teachers so that they can be able to understand culturally influence behaviours of students. He explained the scientific reasons behind the common rituals in our day-to-day life.
