Extended Learning Programme in Mechanical Engineering for First Year Students

Extended Learning Programme has been conducted to create an interest in the course by learning from the experience of the experts in different areas of research, creating awareness about the current trends in the industry and understanding on how the things learnt in the curricula can be applied in the real world scenario.
The first session of the Extended Learning Programme was organized on 3rd July, 2021. Dr. S Seetharamu and Dr. Prakash Urs were the expert Guests.
Dr. S Seetharamu, Former Director of CPRI, Technical Advisor-NDRF and Professor-Mechanical Engineering- “Inclusive Blended Learning for Innovation, Skills and Opportunities”
Dr. S. Seetharamu received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science and joined Central Power Research Institute (CPRI). He is a Chartered engineer, and has served as a Faculty at Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan. Dr. S. Seetharamu is a leading scientist at the Central Power Research Institute. His guidance and mentoring has benefited more than 50 masters and about 20 doctoral students from CPRI, Indian Institute of science, Bangalore University, IITs, NITs and VTU. Dr. S Seetharamu in his talk emphasized on the importance of digitalization and gaps in the process of converting an idea into a product. He motivated the students by giving an introduction of the various new technologies used in the industry and in the research field. He gave an invaluable input by listing out the activities/task to be done as a student each year and introduced on shaping our world, the new normal, the origins and purposes of mechanical engineering, digital twins, UAV drones, and other topics which added a ton of value to the audience.
