A Two-Days Workshop for freshers organized by Google ACSA program

After being selected as Google ACSA Facilitator for 2017-18, Mr. Prathviraj Shetty from the department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) was invited for a two day boot camp at Google Office, Bangalore where he was trained to deliver effective workshops.

The workshop was conducted with a collaborative effort by Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) members and Mr. Prathviraj Shetty as speakers under the able guidance and mentorship of Mr. Johnson Tellis, DTLabz and Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean (Academics). Over 70 students were trained in Android and CS practice during the workshop.

Applied CS with Android is an initiative to bring in practical applications into CS Theory. It gives them a strong foundation in algorithms and data structures. The program employs a "Flipped Classroom" approach where students learn through collaboration with other participants and hands on coding experience. It gives them exposure to real world Android Application development as the participants create games for mobile devices.

The workshop started with basics of Computer Science and C programming. The units covered during the workshop were Anagrams, Scarne's Dice, WordStack, Ghost and Ghost II. The freshers brought in a lot of energy into the workshop and enjoyed it. They provided amazing feedback and have expressed their desire to attend more such workshops in the future. They were excited and enthusiastic about what would come ahead in their CS careers.
