Another Milestone achieved at International Level: Team Challengers secure 2nd prize in SAE International Aerodesign, Florida, USA

Team Challengers secure 2nd prize in SAE International Aerodesign, Florida, USA Team Challengers participated in SAE International Aerodesign held at Lakeland, Florida, USA in Micro class and Regular class category. They have secured 2nd prize for oral presentation in micro class category with enormous appreciation for their technical presentation skills. Kausthubh Pallot, Rakshith Karumbbaiah, Akshay P N, Ranjitha H K, Nanda Kumar, Prashabh J P, Vikyath M, Prabhath Shenoy, Mahadeva, Ananya, Shrinidhi & Shwetha made this ultimate team.

The same group was also placed fourth position in micro payload lifting capacity and fourth in regular class design report. Pre-selected 75 teams from all over the world participated in this competition.

5th Annual Alumni Meet

5th Annual Alumni Meet The 5th Annual Meet of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management Alumni Association (Regd.) was held in Sahyadri Campus with great pomp and joy. The meet started with the general body meeting in which the new office bearers for the year 2017-18 were introduced. This was followed by fun-filled gala evening which included exciting games and cultural extravaganza hosted by final year students. The alumni cherished the chance to come back to their alma mater and relive their memories. They also appreciated the growth of the institution and also assured to join hands to take Sahyadri to the new heights.

Asst. Manager – Training, Levi Strauss and Co. interacts with MBA Department Ms. Neha Kumari, Asst. Manager - Training, Levi Strauss & Co visited Sahyadri and interacted with the MBA Department. After discussion with Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration, she was keen to speak to the final year MBA students who are interested in HR – Learning & Development profile and also Marketing profile as she was looking out for candidates to fill the open positions in her organization. She has interviewed our students and has expressed her willingness to take 3 students to the next level of interview which would be telephonic interaction with her manager.

Workshop on How to Choose Specialization for MBAs A Workshop on “How to Choose Specialization: An interactive session with Industry Experts” was organised for the 1st year MBA students to assist in choosing the specialization to be pursued in their final year. The morning session was on Marketing Specialization and the resource persons - Mr. Anil, Sales Manager, NEXA, Mr. Ravish Kumar, Regional Manager, HDFC Life & Mr. Sogith E Kumaran, Senior Executive-Corporate Strategy (Analytics), Manipal Technologies (Alumni) addressed the students on the various sectors which offer career in Marketing, the reality of Marketing as a job, the additional competencies to be developed to be placed in a highly demanded Marketing profile and also about the salary package that can be expected. Several queries related to the challenges in pursuing career in Marketing were also answered.

Workshop on How to Choose Specialization for MBAs Afternoon Session was on HR Specialization and the resource persons - Mr. Ananth Pai, Assistant Manager-HR, MCT Cards, Manipal, Mr. Harish Kumar, Regional Manager, HR-South-Dunkin Donut’s India & Ms. Chaithra Shetty, Senior HR Associate; MResult Services Pvt Ltd (Alumni) addressed the students on the Transformational Role of an HR in comparison to the Traditional role, Streams of HR like Talent Acquisition, HR Operations, L&D and HR Business Partner in which candidates can pursue their career in, Current HR job market situation due to automation, Importance of Analytics in HR and also the various skills an individual should possess to excel as an HR professional.

Industrial Visit by First year MBA Students An Industrial visit was organized for First year MBA Students under the mentorship of Dr. Rashmi Kodikal and Prof. Gayathri Shetty. 24 students visited Ace Foods Yeyyadi, Digantha Mudrana, Yeyyadi and Achal Industries, Baikampady. The students travelled around the factories and had a visual tour of the end to end processing of each organization. The first company visited by the students was Ace Foods, Yeyyadi. It is a small scale manufacturing unit with 33 years of existence. They manufacture several edible food & have presence in D.K , Udupi and Kodagu District. Majority of their output is exported to America, Australia and UAE. Mr. Umesh Pai, Director of the organization narrated the legacy of the unit and answered the queries of the students.

Industrial Visit by First year MBA Students The second company was Digantha Mudrana, Yeyyadi, which is a print base unit of Hosa Digantha. Mr. Pramod, Marketing Manager explained the varied processing units and services offered by the organization. Post lunch students visited Achal Industries, Baikampady. It is a leading Exporter, Manufacturer and Supplier of Cashew nuts & organic Cashew having several years of existence in the market. The supervisor of the unit helped the students to look through the processes and helped to understand entire process involved in manufacturing and also gave an insight into export procedures in Cashew Industries.

Workshop on How to Choose Specialization for MBAs Day 2 of the Workshop on “How to Choose Specialization: An interactive session with Industry Experts” was on Finance Specialization and the resource persons were Mr. Sunil Kumar Bedi, Partner, Edelweiss Financial Consulting Firm, Mangaluru, Ms. Roopan Aulakh, Investment Manager, Grant Thornton India LLP & Ms. J Prathvi Suvarna, Project Manager, U Define (Alumni).

Resource persons have been helpful to resolve the confusions in students as to which specialisation to opt for. With regards to Finance related profile, they have emphasised on Analytics which is the need of the hour and hands on experience on “R” software would be an added advantage to the profile. With automation being introduced, it is imperative for the students to upgrade their skills from time to time in order to meet the growing demand for talent. They also said opting for a particular specialization should not be treated lightly, but should consider all aspects both positive and negative, and then finalize the selection. Ms. J Prathvi Suvarna appreciated the tremendous growth in the department and had words of praise for the “Thrust Areas” introduced for the holistic development of the students.

All Cargo Logistics Ltd visited Sahyadri Allcargo Logistics Ltd. visited Sahyadri to conduct campus recruitment drive for the 2017 batch. Ms. Monisha Chaudhari, Sr. General Manager - HR, Mr. Balaji, CEO of Avvashya CCI accompanied by Mr. Sakhy Varghese, HR on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process.

Mr. Prajwal Kaverappa, student of second semester MBA is multi-talented & has participated in various State-Level events in Hockey & Athletics. He has completed Marshal Arts (Karate) with Black Belt – Grade 1. He is also an artist specialised in Charcoal Painting, Water Painting & Pencil Sketching.

Industrial Visit to MCF, Meghana Apparels and NMPT by MBA students Second semester students from the Department of Business Administration were taken on an industry visit under the mentorship of Prof. Chandrakanth and Prof. Prajwala Rodrigues. The first company visited was Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (MCF), a fertilizer manufacturing company, Mangalore. Mr. P Suresh, Chief HR Manager, MCF addressed the students on the HR practices, operations and CSR activities at MCF. Further, the students also visited Meghana Apparels, Baikampady. Mr. Pravesh explained the manufacturing and printing procedure of Meghana Apparels Industry.

Industrial Visit to MCF, Meghana Apparels and NMPT by MBA students They were also taken to the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), one of the major ports in Karnataka and the 7th largest port in India. Mr. Janardhan Bangera from Marine Department gave the students an insight into the operations in NMPT. It was an overwhelming experience for the students as they got a glimpse of the functioning of the port. These visits contribute to the practical exposure and knowledge on the working and functioning of the industries which is essential for students.

Industrial Visit to MCF, Meghana Apparels and NMPT by MBA students Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director, Research & Consultancy was invited as a resource person for the All India Seminar organized by Department of Chemical Engineering and The Institution of Engineers (INDIA) on the topic “Recent advances in waste water treatment and disposable” held at SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad.
