K S Eshwarappa, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj of Karnataka, along with his spouse visited Sahyadri
On 3rd Apr, 2022, during his visit to the coastal region, Mr. K S Eshwarappa, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj of Karnataka, along with his spouse visited Sahyadri and viewed the various industries and start-ups that housed inside the premises. Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, walked the guests through the campus and introduced them to the community-oriented initiatives set up at the institution.
What struck his eyes was the Wet Waste Management plant set up at Sahyadri. Mr. Eshwarappa appreciated Sahyadri for living by its core values and innovatively contributing to the environment.
Swami Ekagamyananda Ji, Mr. Dilraj Alva, Mr. U T Ifthikar Ali were also present during his visit.

ISE students visited Varahi Underground Power House
Dept. of Information Science & Engineering organized a One-Day industrial visit in association with Sahyadri IIC and STAISE on 1st April, 2022. A total of 62 students of 3rd semester Dept. of Information Science & Engineering visited Varahi Hydro Electric Power Plant owned by Government of Karnataka and operated by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL). The visit enabled the students to gain fundamentals of Hydro Electric Power Generation, Role of Information Technology and IoT in controlling various operations of the power plant from its control room. The students were accompanied by Prof. Ganaraj K, Prof. Madhu R, Prof. Pratheek H and Prof. Prajna U R, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering.
Varahi Hydro Power Plant is located near Hosangadi in the Udupi district of Karnataka in India where power generation takes place underground. An underground power station is a type of hydroelectric power station constructed by excavating the major components (e.g. machine hall, penstocks, and tailrace) from rock, rather than the more common surface-based construction methods. Power plant consists of 4 x 115 MW Generating Units at Varahi underground Power house. There are four turbines in operation and capacity per each turbine is 115 MW. The type of Turbine used is Pelton and the turbine and Generator of the hydroelectric project is manufactured by Bharat Heavy Electricals limited of India. There are four units in operation.
Dr. Prabhu delivers a lecture for ISEA, MeITy, Govt. of India
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering and Principal Investigator at the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Centre was invited by ISEA, Information Security Education and Awareness, MeITy, Govt. of India to deliver a lecture on New Generation Cyber crimes.
Dr. Prabhu, in his one-hour lecture spoke about the 5th generation Cyber crimes, UPI frauds, banking frauds, best practices to browse the internet responsibly and device hardening techniques. The webinar was attended by more than 300 participants across the country.
