Youth in Technology: What matters?

cet
Every day our timelines overflood with tragic incidents across the world and with every scroll we become more numb than ever. Our gestures of support are becoming mere retweets and wishful comments, rather than an attempt to remedy the situation. It is high time we look beyond our screens.
Today with social media, our safety bubble, conversing about the world’s biggest issues has become not only a fad, but also a sedative to replace action. — Facing the Biggest Challenges of Our Generation.
Action, that’s what matters. As a generation groomed amidst technological breakthroughs, turning a blind eye against the world’s problems will do none of us any good. Gen Z has to assume the mantle from the previous generation to listen, understand and engage and that is also where technology has a huge role to play.
What do you want to create?
Breakthrough innovation is about ditching idealism and theories that we discuss only inside the classroom in order to hack the real world for sustainable solutions.
As budding entrepreneurs, changemakers and the future workforce of the country, understanding the impact of technology and its ability to enable the community is essential, but this cannot happen in silos. It requires inclusivity and two-way communication between the receiving end of the spectrum, meaning the communities benefitting from your solutions as well as the youth.
So…what do YOU want to create with technology?
Being born into an era with technology driving irreversible change, you bring in a fluid sense of where technology fits into our lives and what we can do with it. Technology has the ability to amplify your voices, over two folds. This is where we urge you to look beyond just utilising these platforms and creating your own to empower more people and help them join you in the digital revolution.
Where do you start?
Find what is unorganised around you, something that is missing or unsatisfactory and fails to offer true value. Try to see challenges from an entrepreneurs lens and you will find opportunities everywhere!
Take for instance the story of Phanindra Sama, the founder of redBus who was inspired or rather impelled to create redBus — a platform that allows you to book your bus tickets online easily. His own daunting experience in Bangalore while trying to get his hands on some bus tickets to travel back home for Diwali, introduced him to the disorganization in the system and communication gap between bus operators and travel agents. He bridged the need through technology intervention and created an efficient system benefitting people at large, especially in India.
"When entrepreneurs resonate with a problem and find that they can provide better value to the end-users, an enterprise is born."
You are only a problem away from driving change and there are many more like you, though hard to find, like needles in the haystack. You have got to be the magnet that brings them together.
Technology by itself can only convey the “how” of things, you are the fuel to creating impactful solutions. Understand what technology has to offer, though expertise is essential, also be a generalist. Stay up to date with new technologies and focus on impact. Products that were even futuristic with commendable technology, like the Google Glasses could not survive in the market. It was not the technology that lacked, but the sole purpose of the product.
There are innumerable problems that require your attention. You hold the power to make basic amenities that lack (even to this day) accessible to the whole of humanity; such is the power of technology and the youth.
“To a well-motivated and committed young person, nothing is impossible.”— Adebisi Adenipekun, founder, LightHouse Global Health Initiative

Quote for the day

When you are enthusiastic about what you do, you feel this positive energy. It’s very simple.
