CM Basavaraj Bommai launches Cyber Safe Karnataka project: Content to be developed at Sahyadri CoE for Digital Forensics and Cyber Security

The project proposed by Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering and Principal Investigator at the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Centre of Excellence, Cyber Safe Karnataka to the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports was launched by the Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri. Basavaraj Bommai, at his office, Krishna.
The project aims to make Karnataka the first Cyber Safe State in the country, envisioning the Prime Ministers Digital India and “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative. The project is in association with the Home Department, Education Department and the Department of Youth Affairs.
Minister for Youth Empowerment, Sports and Sericulture Sri K C Narayan Gowda; Additional Chief Secretary Smt Shalini Rajneesh; Director General of Police Sri P S Sandhu, IPS; State lead for SDG Dr. Roopa; SP CID Sri. Sharath; ACP Reena Suvarna, Vivek Shetty and other officials were present. Film Actor Ramesh Arvind is the brand ambassador for this project.
To achieve this mission, volunteers from NSS, 4000 NGOs would work in tandem. The content for the project will be developed at the Sahyadri CoE for Digital Forensics and Cyber Security. All the participants will get access to an online portal where cyber security best practices, educational videos, quiz and other related information will be available in English and Kannada. There will also be an online certification module for the participants to get certified.

Student Orientation Program for the 2021-22 first year Engineering students

A one-week AICTE Model student Induction program commenced for the new batch of engineering students effective 13th Dec, 2021. The students were divided into 3 groups to avoid mass gathering. Prof. Prashanth Rao, Prof. Jyothi F Serrao and Prof. Navin Bappalige addressed the students on the Sahyadri culture, Best practices and the learning environment at Sahyadri. Students were informed of the various aspects that are considered in the autonomous curriculum. ther topics as a part of Universal Human Values were conducted by Prof. Suchetha, Prof. Akshaya Kumari and Prof. Navin Bappalige.

Hands-on Research paper Boot Camp using Mendeley by Dept. of Mechanical Engineering

Dept. of Mechanical Engineering conducted "Hands-on Research paper Boot camp using Mendeley'' for final year Mechanical Engineering students on 11th Dec, 2021, 8:30 AM to 1:00PM at CIM Lab.
The objective of this workshop was to make students conduct and disseminate their innovative research using publications as the tool. In this boot camp, reference manager -Mendeley from Elsevier was used. Dr. Rathishchandra R Gatti, Head-Dept. of Mechanical Engineering trained the students on using Mendeley software to collate information and write research papers. The boot camp included – Registering individual students on Elsevier, creating collaborative research groups, boolean search on google scholar, creating references, importing references and collaboratively writing a research paper with collected references. At the end of the bootcamp, students were able to create a project group and were collaboratively writing research papers using Mendeley cloud.
In the second session, Dr. Harsha Kumar trained the students on how to read a research paper and the generic structure of a research paper. This was followed by Faculty project coordinator-Mr. Suhas’s explanation on how research papers are now a part of the final year project assessment. The HoD then concluded the session by emphasizing on building a powerful resume using research papers during student life to secure a high caliber job in the future. Dept. of ECE holds its first Board of Studies (BoS) Meeting

Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) held its first Board of Studies (BoS) meeting on 11th Dec, 2021 for the current academic year 2021-22 as a part of Autonomous status granted to Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management (SCEM). The meeting mainly focused on the discussion of the syllabus content of the 1st year engineering for the courses such as Basic Electronics, Basic Electrical and Basic Electrical Laboratory to be offered by Dept. of ECE. The member expertise from academia and industry shared the insights and the exact need of the technical concepts in-line with the National Education Policy (NEP) to be included in the syllabi so that students are well equipped with strong fundamentals for the future level workforce.
