Faculty Team Granted German Patent for “Intelligent Gloves for Pressure Measurement and Dermis Health Monitoring”

German_Patent A team of faculty members - Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering: Dr. Mustafa Basthikodi, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering; Dr. Anush Bekal, Associate Professor & Head-Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering; Prof. Ankitha K, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering are granted German utility patent on interdisciplinary invention titled – “Intelligent Gloves for Pressure Measurement and Dermis health Monitoring”, by Deutsches Patent-und Markenamt, Germany with Patent# 2020211064498, in association with Dr. Ashish John, Department of Physiotherapy, KMC, Mangaluru.
The invention relates to the development of intelligent gloves for pressure measurement and Dermis health monitoring. Wearable devices have many applications ranging from health analytics to virtual and mixed reality interaction, to industrial training. For wearable devices to be practical, they must be responsive, deformable to fit the wearer, and robust to the user's range of motion. The invention relates to a therapy glove, in particular to an intelligent detection of pressure in physical therapy. Physical therapy equipment is abbreviated as physiotherapy gloves. It is a glove that detects the pressure applied by the therapist on human body by calculating the pressure applied and giving an output in a desirable unit. It is appropriate for use in hospitals, physiotherapy clinics and anywhere in general where the unit of force applied on a body has to be calculated. A glove that detects the pressure applied during physiotherapy is essential to check the threshold of pain tolerance and also to keep a track of progress and improvement of the patient’s pain tolerance. The gloves will be embedded with nanotechnology sensors that can calculate the force and pressure exerted on the human body at various points. The gloves also transmit the data in real time to the computer.
