Team Challengers secured 2nd place in AVIATE'22 hosted by NIT Calicut

challengers Team Challengers of Sahyadri has accomplished yet another feat by securing second place in "AVIATE'22". AVIATE is NIT Calicut's pioneer aeromodelling event where Aeromodelling enthusiasts from institutions across the country compete against each other. The team consisting of Nehal Hosalikar and Rachana Shetty from second-year Information Science & Engineering; Varun Raj Melanta and Rakshith K from second-year Mechanical Engineering achieved this feat. The team received a problem statement to design an affordable "Crop Duster", a fixed-wing aircraft that has to be designed considering the field sizes in India to fertilize 0.125 acres of land. The disassembled aircraft must be compact enough to fit in a box the size of 1200mm*1200mm*1200mm.
Team Challengers is a unique technical hub that provides massive opportunities in various fields like Aero-modeling, Aerial and Ground Robotics, thus helping students boost their technical skills.

Union Budget - 2022, Analysis and Discussion by First year MBAs

The takeaways and reforms of Union Budget 2022 were presented by the students of 1st year MBA (Autonomous Batch) in 6 groups, targeting 15 prime sectors like Education, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Health Care, MSME, Consumer Durables, Defence, Real Estate and so on. The groups presented their analysis and year on year comparison of these sectors. Dr. Uday Kumar, Former Principal & HOD-Commerce, University College, Mangalore and CA Karthik Shenoy, KVC Academy, were the panelists of the discussion.
Dr. Uday Kumar, firstly, appreciated the efforts of the students in reviewing the budget in-depth and in his remarks mentioned that comparisons between numbers would be fair if the impact of these Budget allocations is also taken into consideration.
CA Karthik Shenoy was amazed to view the presentation and applauded the viewpoints of students in their presentation. He further shared his opinion that one should understand the particular aspects of the Budget allocations and see the micro as well as macro impact of these allocations on the Indian Economy.

National Science Day observed at Sahyadri

National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28 February each year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist Sir C.V Raman on 28 February 1928. On this occasion, the Dept. of Basic Science, in collaboration with the IETE (Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers), held a quiz competition, for first-year Engineering students with the preliminary rounds taking place on February 28th and the finals on March 3rd, 2022., the four teams were selected as finalists - Chinmaya Vittal V and Shetty Deveesh Chidananda (B Section); Anudeep K K and Kaushik K U (D Section); Ananya and Saanvi (F Section ) and Jasraj and Sankshipth (I Section ). The Quizmaster was Arjun Bhandary, student from second-year Engineering. The winners were Chinmaya Vittal V, Shetty Deveesh Chidananda (B Section) and second placed was bagged by Ananya and Saanvi (F Section).

The guest for the formal event was Rev Fr Vijay Lobo, Principal, St. Philomena P U College, Puttur. Dr Prashanth Rao, HOD-Dept. of Basic Science welcomed the guest and gathering. Rev Fr Vijay Lobo spoke on the external influences that can mould our destiny by using the example of a child who damages a toy with the want to know what is inside the object. He also emphasized on the potential and abilities that each individual has, as well as the necessity to always have the desire to learn more. He also discussed the three fundamental pillars of learning that are crucial in a student's life: learning to do, learning to think, and learning to communicate. Based on these pillars students have to create their own environment of success. After that, the principal discussed the principles of science and technology, as well as how we may use science to raise public awareness and apply it effectively for the good of society.
Dr. Savitha M B, Associate Professor, Chemistry Department, gave a presentation on Alternative Fuels for the Future - from yesterday to today and tomorrow. She highlighted the various conventional and promising alternate fuels, as well as their various drawbacks, barriers, and opportunities to overcome them. The information given to the audience grabbed the interest of the audience. Dr. Jyothi F Serrao, Associate Professor, Physics Department, gave a vote of gratitude at the end of the programme. Prof. Soumyashree, Dept. of English hosted the occasion.
