Second Batch of Two-Day MDP for MRPL Employees by MBA Dept.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), this year sanctioned 4 Batches to provide ‘Behavioural Training’ for their employees in batch of 30 each. In this regard, the first batch was completed in May 2023 with excellent feedback received from the MRPL trainees.
Dept. of Business Administration-MBA conducted the second batch of Two-Day Management Development Program (MDP) for MRPL employees during 17th-18th Oct, 2023.
Inauguration (17th Oct, 2023)

The MDP was inaugurated by Dr. Manjappa S, Director-R&D and Consultancy along with Dr. Rajesha S, Principal; Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA Program; Prof. Sushma V, Coordinator of the MDP; Mr. Sandesh J Cutinho Prabhu, Chief General Manager (HR); Mr. Girish Kumar, Deputy General Manager (Training & Development) and Ms. G Meenakshi, Senior Manager (HR). During the inauguration, Dr. Manjappa S spoke about his association with MRPL in their Board and encouraged the Trainees to engage themselves effectively in the two days of Training.
Dr. Rajesha S remembered the efforts put in from the planning stage in order to get the best experiences for the MRPL Employees
Dr. Vishal Samartha talking about the feedback of 1st batch informed the participants that all aspects have been looked into to make the second batch experience a fruitful one.
Prof. Sushma V highlighted the sessions lined up for the training and shared the expectations from the Trainees along with encouraging them to take part in spot games and making the two-day event a fun-filled one.
Day One: (17th Oct, 2023)

Session 1: "Quality & Cost Effectiveness"
Prof. Monisha Shetty, Dept. of Business Administration delved into the critical aspects of maintaining quality while optimizing costs. Her activity-based session provided MRPL employees with practical strategies to ensure quality standards are met without compromising cost-effectiveness.
Session 2: "Company Objectives, Profitability and Net Zero"
Mr. Johnson Tellis, Trustee and CEO of Sahyadri addressed the participants on the company's overarching objectives, strategies for profitability, and the imperative goal of achieving a Net Zero carbon footprint. His session provided a visionary perspective on aligning corporate goals with sustainability.
Day Two: (18th Oct, 2023)

Session 1: "Value for Work"
Prof. Manjunath Kamath, Dept. of Business Administration shared insights on instilling a culture of value-driven work within the organization. His session emphasized the importance of aligning individual efforts with the organizational goals to enhance overall productivity.
Session 2: "Value for Life"
The second session, led by Preetham Kamath, Freelance Trainer-Counselling Psychology focused on the broader concept of "Value for Life." Participants explored the significance of work-life balance, personal well-being, and the integration of personal values into professional life.

Session 3: "Positive and Lateral Thinking"
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering and Principal Investigator at the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security CoE, in the final session of the MDP, delved into the realms of positive and lateral thinking. Participants were guided on cultivating a mindset that embraces innovative and creative problem-solving, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.

Dr. Manjappa S heard the ‘Opinion Sharing’ session by MRPL Trainees and in his concluding remarks appreciated the coordinators of the MDP for meticulously planning and executing the Training Programme, meeting the Quality standards. Later, winners of spot games and ‘Selfie Contest with Sahyadri Background’ were awarded and ‘Certificate of Participation’ was distributed to all the trainees.
Sahyadri remains committed to contributing to the professional development of individuals and the success of organizations through such impactful programs.

ABC of Business: ‘An Entrepreneurial Talk 2023’ for MBAs

Dept. of Business Administration-MBA conducted ‘ABC of Business: An Entrepreneurial Talk’ session by Mr. Ranganath C Kini, a prominent figure and the District Secretary of Events, during Ranganath Bhat's term as Governor, engaged with second-semester students to share valuable insights from his entrepreneurial journey. Mr. Kini is the owner of Crown Rubber Stamp Co, a business that has been in existence for an impressive 98 years, marking a legacy of excellence in the industry.
During the session, Mr. Kini provided a detailed account of how he established a robust network within the Rotary Club, emphasizing the importance of professional connections and community involvement in growing one's business. He highlighted the power of relationships and collaboration in the entrepreneurial world, shedding light on the role of Rotary Club in fostering such connections.

Furthermore, Mr. Kini discussed the operational aspects of his company, offering students an overview of its functioning, clientele, and key business strategies. He shared his experiences in managing a long-standing family business and the challenges and triumphs he has encountered over the years.

Bridge Course for MBA Batch 2023

Day Six (17-10-2023)

As a part of the day 6 Bridge Course for the fresh batch of MBA 2023, Prof. Manjunath Kamath M and Prof. Varun C S, both from Dept. of Business Administration-MBA engaged the students in interesting sessions.
Prof. Manjunath Kamath oriented students about War Economy and made students share opinions regarding various war scenarios during war through role play. He also gave them insights about the various factors and economic consequences that it brings along in the world.
Prof. Varun CS introduced the new batch of students to various fundamentals of marketing with the help of interesting case studies like - Coca cola and Nike and also emphasised on various aspects of marketing and brand building via the cases. Altogether the students involved themselves in fruitful sessions that provided great insights for their upcoming two years of MBA programme at Sahyadri.

ISE Faculty and Student Team Presented a Paper in 2023 IEEE DISCOVER International Conference

Publish A paper titled "Intelligent Framework for Auditory and Speech Impaired Individuals by Accelerating Sign Image Analysis using Graph Data Science" was presented by Mr. Vishnu N V, Student Co-Author, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering in the Healthcare Track of 7th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing, VLSI, Electrical Circuits and Robotics (2023 IEEE DISCOVER) which was hosted by Sahyadri and organized by IEEE Mangalore Subsection on October 13-14, 2023. This paper was Authored by Prof. Akhila Thejaswi R, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering and Co-authored by Dr. Shamantha Rai Bellipady, Prof. Rithesh Pakkala Permanki Guthu, Dr. Nagesh H R, Ms. Preksha P Alva and Mr. Vishnu N V.
This Paper will be submitted for publication in IEEE Xplore® Digital Library (Conference Record #58830), through the IEEE Conference Publications Program (CPP) and is SCOPUS Indexed.

Dr. Prabhu invited as Panelist at the National Level Data Security Workshop

Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering and Principal Investigator at the Digital Forensics and CoE was invited by Manipal Law School and FDPPI to be the panelist at the National Level Workshop- "Jaago Regulators Jaago" on Data Privacy. It was scheduled on 17th Oct, 2023 because on this day in the year 2000, the Information Technology Act (IT Act) came into existence in India.
The workshop was organized at the Manipal Law School Bengaluru, in a hybrid mode- both online and offline. The panelists comprised of Prof. Triveni Singh, IPS- Cyber Cop and Superintendent of Police, Former Addl SP Baalu Swaminathan, Dr. Mallikarjuan Principal of KLE Law School, Dr Divya Devulapally, Renowned Psychiatrist, Anil Rachamalla of End Now Foundation, Ramesh Venkatraman from the FDPPI under the leadership of Vijayshankar Navi. Naavi is the founder of www.naavi.org, a community interested in the emerging field of laws governing the Cyber Society. The goal of Naavi.org is to contribute towards building a Responsible Cyber Society.

1. "Dark Villages" may refer to online spaces linked to illicit activities and hidden corners of the internet.
2. Individuals in these spaces may hide their identities for discussions or actions.
3. Privacy and security concerns may drive people to "Dark Villages" to escape data tracking.
4. Some communities with extremist or niche interests could be termed "Dark Villages."
5. Graduates and engineers may engage in phishing due to economic factors, lack of awareness, and social pressure.
6. Lack of ethical education and limited job opportunities can contribute to such activities.
7. The exploitation and manipulation by criminal organizations can be a factor.
8. Strengthening ethical education, increasing job opportunities, and raising awareness are key solutions to address the issue.
9. Recognize that some individuals may turn to illegal activities due to underlying mental health issues or personal challenges. Providing accessible mental health services and support can help address the root causes of their involvement in criminal activities and offer a path to recovery and rehabilitation.

Placements and Training: HP Inc. Organized a Pool Campus Recruitment

HPHP

HP Inc. organized a recruitment drive on 17th Oct, 2023 for the shortlisted students from various Colleges in Mangaluru, including those from Computer Science, Information Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering students from the 2024 outgoing batch. The process began with a pre-placement talk and was followed by interviews encompassing Technical, Managerial, and HR rounds. Sahyadri is currently in anticipation of the results.
