Dr. Sam Pitroda visits Sahyadri and interacts with students and staffDr. Sam Pitroda visits Sahyadri and interacts with students and staff Dr. Sam Pitroda is an internationally respected telecom inventor, entrepreneur, development thinker, and policy maker who has spent 50 years in information and communications technology (ICT) and related global and national developments. During his tenure as Advisor to Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Dr. Pitroda led six technology missions related to telecommunications, water, literacy, immunization, dairy production, and oil seeds. He was also the founder and first Chairman of India’s Telecom Commission. In these plural roles, Dr. Pitroda helped revolutionize India's development philosophies and policies with a focus on access to technology as the key to social change.

Dr. Sam Pitroda visits Sahyadri and interacts with students and staff During the interactive session, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation introduced Dr. Pitroda to the students and staff. He said Sam’s journey of life is an inspiration to him. He also said that during the setting-up process of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, he had approached Dr. Sam Pitroda for advice and Sam was very clear that an institution should be 1 out of 100 and not 99 out of 100. Chairman proudly expressed the fact that Sahyadri is now contributing to the society and has reached the goal which Sam had initially set for Sahyadri. He mentioned of the achievements talking about how Sahyadri has grown over the years. He also acknowledged that Sam is the person behind the strategic implementation of out-of-the box initiatives undertaken by Sahyadri.

He was fascinated by the student-centric innovations at the campus and referred Sahyadri to the ‘Learning of tomorrow’.

Talking about education, Dr. Pitroda mentioned that the current education system needs to be changed. It is the next big challenge for the country. The world we live in is very obsolete. Information is been democratized. Everything is available yet we don’t know how to use it. To learn something, you just need motivation, time and content. If you have enough motivation and time, you can get surplus amount of content on the internet and you can learn whatever you want, he said. Dr. Pitroda concluded his speech asking the students to face the unknown, redefine yourself & be creative.

Dignitaries from Capgemini, Mumbai & Logexsoft Inc, Boston, USA visit Sahyadri Sahyadri had the honour of hosting two dignitaries at the campus today. Mr. K Sudhakar Shetty, Senior Management, Capgemini, Mumbai & Mr. Sathyananda Bhandary, Senior Vice-President of Logexsoft Inc, Boston, USA who was earlier with Oracle, a global software giant. Mr. K Sudhakar Shetty is a classmate of our Vice-Principal - Prof. S S Balakrishna and the college mate of our Chairman - Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. It is also worth mentioning that Mr. Sathyananda Bhandary was instrumental during the visit of our Chairman to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, a renowned Technological Institute in the world and arranging interactions with top Scientists and academicians of that Institute which substantially helped Sahyadri in scaling to a new level. After visiting various departments, facilities and newly started companies of Sahyadri, they appreciated the growth of Sahyadri and wished that the institute emerge as one of the best institutions in the country very soon.

Outgoing Students of Computer Science & Engineering bid farewellOutgoing Students of Computer Science & Engineering bid farewell The Valedictory function for the activities of CLOUDS (Computer Legends Of the Unified Department @ Sahyadri) - an association by the students and faculty members of the department of Computer Science & Engineering, and a farewell for the outgoing students of UG and PG was held in the campus. Chief Guest of the function was Mr. Vidya Shankar, Territory Manager, South Karnataka Region, TTK Prestige Ltd. and alumnus of Computer Science & Engineering of Sahyadri. He shared his experience as an employee of Prestige Ltd. and advised the students to have positive mindset in life and also talked about contribution of Sahyadri for his career.

Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean Academics was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HOD, Dept. of CSE gave the Presidential address. Annual Report of the club activities was presented by Supravi Rai, the General Secretary of CLOUDS. Awards were distributed to the class toppers of the Odd semester. The outgoing students and faculty members shared their experiences at Sahyadri. Staff Coordinator – Mr. Shailesh Shetty and Vice-President – Mr. Shisir Shetty were present during this occasion. Cultural events were organized both by Students and Staff.

Valedictory Ceremony of Two-Day Workshop on “Eco-friendly Products and Practices”

Eco-friendly Products and PracticesEco-friendly Products and Practices The two-day workshop on “Eco-friendly Products and Practices” concluded on Saturday. The Chief Guest of the valedictory ceremony was Mr. Bhaskar Kamath, Head-Roof top Engineering, TATA Power Solar, Bengaluru. During his talk, he urged the students to inculcate creativity in their minds which comes only when we revise the goals. The function was presided by Vice-Principal Prof. Balakrishna S S and Dr. Premanand Shenoy. Prof. Sunil Kumar K, HoD, Civil Department, Prof. Ramya. K, SPACE Co-ordinator & faculty of Civil Department and also Civil engineering students were present during the occasion.

As a part of the workshop, students of Dept of Civil Engineering visited “Master Plannery”, Nehru Nagar, Puttur. Master Plannery is a technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing and financial company. The students witnessed different indoor and outdoor precast products which were innovative, strong, resistant and low cost. Most of the products resembled wood in texture but no wood in it actually.

First Year MBA Student pledged to donate all her Organs on the occasion of her grandmother’s Birthday

Ms. Runa Nivea Pinto of First Year MBA has pledged to donate all her organs. She has registered herself as a donor with the Government Nodel Organdonation Agency Jeevasarthakathe under the supervision and Guidance of Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor as a mark of Celebrating Life on the occasion of her grandmother’s Birthday. Sahyadri is proud of her heroic gesture and applauds her decision.

Tomorrow at Sahyadri

Tech Vision 2018
It is a one-day intra-collegiate project competition which will be held in the campus on 1st May, 2018. The main objective of this event is to inspire young minds of the engineering students by providing them a platform to demonstrate their skills and knowledge through projects. Around 20 Lakh rupees have been spent on Sahyadri Project Support Scheme (SPSS) wherein the grants are being provided to each of the qualified student projects. More than 710 projects including SPSS and Non-SPSS projects of BE, M.Tech and MBA and VTU final year projects of B.E students will be on display. More than 3000 students will be participating in the event demonstrating their engineering talent. Around Rs. 2,07,000 amount has been sanctioned by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management for prizes.
