COVID-19 Face-Shields by DreamWorks Makerspace
In response to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, Makerspace across the country, have mobilized an effort to manufacture protective Face-shields for Health Care workers. The Makerspace of DreamWorks at Sahyadri is one of them, where the team began to manufacture surgical M19 Face-shields in an effort to meet the rapidly growing need for personal protective equipment for healthcare workers since the 31st of March’2020. So far, around 2300 Face-shields have been distributed to various Health care professionals and Police personnel on field, which included the 300 Face-shields that were given out to the Mangalore Police Department on 20th April’2020.

Awareness/Mentoring Session on IPR & IP Management for Innovation and Start-ups
Sahyadri Institute Innovation Council (IIC) organized a 90-minute webinar on “Awareness/Mentoring Session on IPR & IP Management for Innovation and Start-ups” on 18th April 2020, towards extending the support and awareness of various aspects of Intellectual Property Rights and also to provide a mentoring session for individual innovators and Start-ups.
Dr. Ratishchandra Gatti, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering was invited as a resource person. Dr. Anush Bekal, Vice-President & Convener, MHRDs Institute Innovation Council; Ms. Navya Rai D, Innovation Activity Co-ordinator, MHRDs Institute Innovation Council; Faculty members of the institute & Students were present during for the Online session.
In this 90-minute webinar, the resource person shared his in-depth knowledge on Intellectual Property Rights. He spoke about what an IPR is, the classification of Intellectual Property Rights - Patents, Copyrights, Industrial Design rights, Trademarks and Trade secrets. He also shared the difference between patents, copyright and trademarks. Mainly speaking about the various procedures involved in obtaining an IPR, he also spoke on the rules and regulations, the timeline and costs involved in obtaining a patent. He mentioned that there is a dire need for innovators and start-ups to guard their innovative products or MVPs with IPR before they move towards marketing or demonstrate their innovations for investments.
He further emphasized on the benefits of having an IPR - Return on Investment, Competitive advantage, a source of Passive Income and much more.
This was followed by an audience interaction session where student and faculty innovators exchanged their thoughts and questions about IPR. The session ended on a positive note with resource person advising the innovators to obtain IPR as an investment towards the future. A total of 105 participants attended the webinar.
CSE Faculty Reviews a Paper on Scopus Indexed Journal
Dr. Shreyas Rao, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, reviewed a paper titled - "A Cognitive Knowledge-Based Model For Adaptive E-Advising System" and submitted to Interdisciplinary Journal of Information, Knowledge, and Management (IJIKM) for evaluation. The journal is Scopus indexed and comes under Q3 quartile category.
