Webinar on ‘Transition from College to Corporate’

webinar Sahyadri Institute Innovation Council (IIC) organized a webinar on “Transition from College to Corporate” on 24th April’2020 at 04:30 PM IST, towards how carefully choosing a career will help an individual to stay motivated and remain a star performer throughout one’s career.
Mr. Mukunda Joshi, Customer Delivery Manager at Cisco Systems India, was invited as a resource person. Mr. Joshi is a Senior IT Professional with 20+ years of progressive experience in large scale Software Development Initiates for the Supply Chain, Financial, and Automotive sector.
Dr. Rajesha S, Dean-Academics; Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal; Dr. Anush Bekal, Vice-President & Convener, MHRDs Institute Innovation Council; Dr. Mahesh Davanageri, Internship Activity Coordinator, MHRDs Institute Innovation Council; Ms. Navya Rai D, Innovation Incharge, Sahyadri, IIC; Faculty members of the Institute and Students were present during the event.
In this webinar, the resource person shared his experience in the field of IT. He spoke about Transition which is an ongoing process in everyone’s life that takes place at different stages. This might be from the final years of school to the early years of higher education, occupational training, independent living, or social opportunities.
Also, it can be from the final years of college to the early years of one’s career. The transition from college to career needs more attention as it involves a lot of planning which should take account of the personal goals and ambitions of the young person. The objective of the planning must ensure that the person possesses the necessary skills to enable the person to cope up with the corporate culture and climate. For an individual, starting to work in an organization is a unique and critically important phase that requires a special perspective and strategy to be successful as a fresher. Preparing oneself to bridge the gap between the college and corporate smoothly, requires a lot of effort. As a new graduate enters the work arena he is exposed to many career choices. Possessing better soft skills, the required technical skills, effective communication skills, and a winning resume will help to face the interview with courage and confidence. Making the first impression as an effective contributor will make the process of transition easier. We must also know well about the company and also it is important to learn business Jargons.
He also quoted that “I Hire for the Best Attitude and then Train for the Skills in Cisco”. Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director R&D and President of Sahyadri IIC, has conveyed his best wishes towards the entire early exposure program and also advised all the stakeholders to make the best use of it and benefit from the activities that are conducted under the IIC.
A total of 250 students and 6 faculty members attended the session.

guest_lecture Ms. Karishma Suvarna, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at MResult Services Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru, facilitated a session on “HR & its Functions” for the 1st year MBAs as a part of the Course Titled – “Human Resource Management” (Course Code: 18MBA21) on 23rd Apr’2020.
Prior to 7 years of experience at MResult Services Pvt Ltd, Karishma has worked in Mphasis Pvt Ltd for a period of 3 years as a Voice & Accent Trainer and Quality Analyst. She is the sibling of Prof. Sushma V, Dept. of Business Administration-MBA.
guest During the online session, Karishma shared her experience in the current role as an HR and also threw light on the E-Recruitment process. She gave a brief on what the HR recruiters look for in a candidate while hiring through social media and online portals. She re-iterated to update their resumes with Future Skills, Certifications undertaken, and knowledge on latest Tools & Technology. She gave tips on criteria to keep in mind while selecting the company to apply for internships and jobs. It was an interactive session and clarified doubts of students in terms of HR profile and their interview process.
