Sahyadri Ranked Eight by VTU among 200 Colleges

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been ranked eight by VTU in sports and cultural activities for the year 2013-14. It is by no mean feat that the College has received the number eight ranking from among 200 colleges affiliated to VTU.

The SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Club team, Mangalore Chapter, comprising of Goutham Nayak, Amod Kamat, Ankush Vishwakarma and Fenil Mehta of the Department of Mechanical Engineering successfully cleared the national level "Virtual Baja" contest held at Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad. They now become eligible for the next round. It was organized by SAE India with more than 100 teams participating from various engineering colleges across India.

Mr. Deepak Thimaya of Verbattle visits Sahyadri

Mr. Deepak Thimaya, a well-known television personality and founder of Verbattle visited the Campus. He was shown around the Campus by Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, and Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering. He appreciated Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, the Chairman for the wonderful infrastructure of the College. He was in awe of the facilities provided in the Campus and said, “It is the best campus I have visited.”

Mr. Deepak Thimaya is a well-known Television Personality, Journalist, Writer, Educationist, Trainer, Teacher, Entrepreneur, Film Maker, Producer, Painter, Motivational Speaker, Counselor, Political Analyst, Advisor and Aspirant.

Verbattle is Mr. Thimaya's pet concept and as its founder and managing trustee of Verbattle Foundation, he expects Verbattle to reach the hearts and minds of every thinking and feeling individual, young and old alike. Verbattle is now a truly international organization with activities in Canada, Central Europe and Hongkong. Verbattle, projected and promoted as the biggest intellectual platform for school children and college youth, is the biggest debate tournament in India. Verbattle Club is the largest children's association is Karnataka and aims at nurturing values of democracy and civic society and motivating children and youth to participate in the opinion-making process and develop into leaders.

Shruthi S. Gangal with 79.11% has topped the Sahyadri College in the Semester VI Electronics & Communication Engineering Examination of 2013-14 held by VTU. Ashwini S. Shetty, Atiqa Arif Hasan and Chandana Rao obtained the second position in the college with 77% while Anumeha S. with 76.44% stands third.

Five teams of Sahyadrians in Verbattle Finals

All five teams of Sahyadrians who participated in the Verbattle-14 Senior Mangalore Zonal contest are selected for the final round to be held in the third week of August in Bangalore. The team members were Krithika K., Prajwal S. Chandra, Sheetal P. N., Neha K. Dutt, Nikil Noronah, Hegde Vignesh, Sahana P, Bhavik Das, Gautham J. Shetty, and Ramya N.

The teams were guided by Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering. He was also the judge for Verbattle-14 Junior held in Mangalore where more than sixty teams of age group 10-6 participated.

Around forty teams participated in the Verbattle-14 senior round at the zonal level selection of the Verbattle Senior as a part of Verbattle Debate Competition 2014. Fifteen teams have been shortlisted to go to the next level 'Verbattle Seniors -Skirmish'. The final debates will be moderated by Deepak Thimaya and judged by some of the eminent personalities from the state. The participants belonged to the age group of 16-25 years. The fifteen teams selected in the Mangalore zone included teams from Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Shimoga.

Orientation for Freshers by the Team Dreamers

“Well begun is half done”, said the famous philosopher Aristotle. On the first day of engineering life, the new entrants to the College were addressed by the team ‘Dreamers’.

Johnson Tellis, leader of the team DREAMERS began the session by sharing his personal experience about his engineering life in Sahyadri. Aim, dedication, perseverance, and patience he said are the key factors with which one can fulfill his dreams. He told the students to start ‘dreaming’ and start working to bring those dreams to reality.

He concluded the session by stating that Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is a great place for all those students who are passionate towards engineering since Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, the Chairman of the College is a very enthusiastic and motivating person who has supported the team ‘DREAMERS’ and many other zealous students in taking up projects.

Tomorrow at Sahyadri

Brigadier A. Arun, Yudh Seva Medal, Sena Medal, will be the resource person for the workshop on `Leadership/Ownership and Happiness-A Primer’. He will address the final year engineering students of all branches from 2.30 P.M. to 4.45 P.M. in the auditorium.

Brigadier A. Arun joined the National Defence Academy in January 1982, opting not to join the IIT, for which an all India rank of 13 was secured. He has over thirty-one years of varied experience, largely in the command of men in Counter-Terrorism roles. He is highly experienced in planning and delivery of Personnel Management and logistics in International Task Forces in Cambodia and Sierra Leone and short term projects in forecasting and structuring of Large Coalitions including significant civilian components at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Brigadier A. Arun has to his credit multiple Masters Degrees in Defence, Strategic Management, Nation Building and Conflict Prevention and Creative Writing. Post Graduate Studies in Personnel Management, Human Resources Development and Creative Writing.
