Prof. C. Ranganathaiah delivers a Technical talk
Prof. C. Ranganathaiah, Director of Research, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management delivered a talk on “Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy: A novel tool for Materials Characterization” to the Post-Graduate Students at the Regional Institute of Education, Mysore. The talk consisted of a brief over-view of the positron annihilation process starting from the prediction and discovery of the first antiparticle namely the Positron. The description of the three conventional methods which are the off shots of the process followed with an example to demonstrate the potential uses of these methods. The talk was completed by updating the students on the advancement made on the conventional methods. He gave one such advancement example that is the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) a medical diagnostic tool popularly used as an alternative to MRI diagnostic method.
This followed a series of questions by the students who showed a lot of interest in such a sophisticated technology and its use in materials Science. Prof. Ranganathaiah gave them convincing answers to all of their questions.
