Social Innovation Program is an initiative taken up at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management for First Year students to envisage their Innovative Thinking abilities and nurture it towards the betterment of society. Through the program, students are introduced to community problems through a design thinking approach and encouraged to come up with viable solutions and convert them to sustainable projects or be deployed as a full-scale product.
mushroomia1 Team ‘Mushroomania’ comprising of members Akhilesh P., Aishwarya K., Sathwik S.K. and Neha of First Year ‘I’ Section, have come up with an Innovative idea for Agricultural waste. Sadly, Agricultural Waste in spite of being organic is not properly utilized. It is being ignored since it is not considered as a resource for any commercially important products. The majority portion of crop waste is burnt which leads to economic loss, environmental pollution, reduction of microbial activity in soil and growth of pests and pathogens. The idea has completed the Prototype Stage and done for testing and successfully implemented.
With the continuous innovating of newer ideas, Sahyadri has reached a higher level in the field of innovation. Moreover, it’s a gateway for the budding juniors to join our institution and explore a world of new possibilities.

Dr. Ananth Prabhu, quoted his Guru Mr. Sanjay Sahay ‘Hacking is the new normal’. Of course it is, Dr. Ananth warned, but it depends on how we use this double edged sword - the Internet. It can be an excellent slave or a terrible Master.
Coming to the topic of CyberCrimes against Women Dr. Ananth emphasized on the Digital Wellbeing of a woman and explicitly abbreviated the word ‘NAARI’ as follows:
N - Never share your password, ATM Pin or any other confidential information with anyone especially your digital devices!
A- Avoid meeting acquaintances from social media!
There are instances where women have used the dating sites and have been taken for granted time and again!
A- Avoid posting too much information on social media and also high resolution photographs which can easily be morphed.
Dr Ananth advised doing an online Open Source Intelligence OSINT search on the Internet and find out how much of private information is public!
R- Regularly update your antivirus, apps, software and operating system.
Why? To plug the loopholes; these loopholes can be an open invite to all the hackers!
I- Informed! Stay well informed about the various crimes, security policies and laws.
Dr. Ananth spoke about the Cyber Safe Girl project that has been launched. Currently the Version 3 has got 30 different crimes on women, prevention and safety tips, he said.
