Faculty Member invited to conduct workshop at Amity University by the IIT Roorkee Professor

Dr. Millie Pant, Professor, Department of Applied Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) invited Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering to conduct Workshop on Developing Computer Vision Applications using Raspberry Pi 3 as a part of International Conference on Soft Computing: Theories & Applications (SoCTA 2016) at Amity University, Jaipur.

SoCTA 2016 was attended by Dr. Ajit Abraham, Director, Machine Intelligence Research Lab, USA, Dr. J.E.Lugo, University of Montreal, Canada, Dr. Aninda Base, Springer Publications Head, Dr. P.C.Jha, Professor, Delhi University. Dr. B. K. Panigrahi, IIT Delhi and several international researchers and experts from the area of Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Soft Computing.

Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan (RMSA)

Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan (RMSA) was organized at our campus for the High School students participating from thirty five schools of Dakshin Kannada region. The event witnessed participation of seventy four students accompanied by twenty teachers. Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Professor of Humanities & Administrator delivered the welcome speech. Mr. Lokesh C, Deputy Director & Project coordinator of RMSA and In charge of Block Education Office, Bantwal, Mr. Prakash, Education Coordinator of B.E.O Bantwal, Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Technical Assistant of RMSA Dakshin Kannada, and Mr. Prakash, S.D.A of RMSA Dakshin Kannada graced the occasion.

Session commenced, with briefing about the purpose of hosting the event by Mr. Lokesh C, followed by an inspiring talk by the Principal Dr. U M Bhushi. Johnson Tellis (Director, Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd.), narrated the life stories of successful people and stressed on the point that in order to achieve something in life, one has to dream first and then believe in themselves to achieve it. Team DREAMERS comprising of Johnson Tellis, Nishanth, Sachin, John, Achala and Gautham guided students through the entire process of pursuing higher education. The students also visited E- cell, Hands on Experience Lab, Aero modeling club and SAE Club. The main purpose of this visit was to get an idea regarding the various opportunities available and how self learning and a desire to reach a goal can eventually make one successful.

The session concluded with an inspiring story about the life style of an eagle. The take away from this story is to always aim high and choose to live even though you have to undergo a painful process. Students and teachers were mesmerized by the exposure they got from this visit and were happy to have been given this opportunity. Finally an Air show was arranged by Team challengers to motivate the students.

Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan is a unique educational programme which has been designed in such a way to respond effectively to the emerging demands of our society and rapid developments that are taking place due to liberalization Privatization and Globalization. Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan is a project aimed at bringing all the school age children (14-16 years) of the country within the fold of education by the stipulated time with the active participation of community ensuring the much-needed social justice.
