Sahyadrians Pay their Respects at the War Memorial to Mark Vijay Diwas

Vijay Diwas Vijay Diwas Every year on Dec’16th, our nation celebrates Vijay Diwas to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971. Rich tributes are being paid to the Martyrs who laid down their lives during the war. In commemoration of the Day, students of Dept. of Business Administration-MBA, visited Kadri War Memorial and paid their homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives for our nation.

Various dignitaries like Prof. P Subramanya Yadapadithaya, Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University; Mr. Surendar Singh Dasila, TM, Commander, Indian Coast Guard; Ms. Sindhu B Rupesh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, D K District; Col A K Sharma, Group Commander, NCC; Dr. Selvamani R, IAS, CEO, Zilla Parishad, D K District; Mr. S Ajith Kumar Hegde, Commissioner, Mangaluru City Corporation and Lion Mr. Ronald Gomes, MJF, District Governor, Lions District 317 D, were the Guests of Honour at this Wreath Laying Ceremony. In their heartfelt address to the students, a few of the guests emphasised on the significance of the Day. They commended the sacrifice of the brave soldiers and how they laid down their lives for our nation.

The students were accompanied by Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer & NSS Programme Officer, and Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor.

Faculty attend AWS Cloud Practitioner Program conducted by ICT Academy in Raja Rajeswari College of Engineering, Bengaluru

Ltd. and Prof. Asha B Shetty, Prof. Sangeetha S Harikantra & Prof. Ranjana M Nayak from the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering attended AWS Cloud Practitioner Program conducted by ICT Academy in Raja Rajeswari College of Engineering, Bengaluru.

The course provided insight into AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials on Core services, Architecture, pricing and support which was delivered by Mr. Vishram Thatte, Technical Program Manager, AWS Academy, Amazon.

Student of Computer Science & Engineering gets Intel (R) Edge AI Scholarship

Vineet Mr. Nathaniel Ryan Mathew, a student of 5th Semester Computer Science & Engineering has been selected for the Intel (R) Edge AI Scholarship Program.

Intel (R) Edge AI Scholarship is open to all applicants interested in learning how to work with computer vision and deep learning models. Top students from the initial Fundamentals Course will be selected for one of 750 follow-up scholarships to the brand-new Intel Edge AI for IoT Developers Nanodegree Program.

Introduction of the Mentor:

Prof. Ajith B S obtained his B.E degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rajeev Institute of Technology, Hassan and M.Tech degree in Thermal Power Engineering from VTU-Post Graduation Studies, Mysuru. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D in Alternative Fuels and IC Engines from VTU, Belagavi. He recently received Rs. 2 Lakhs worth “Competitive Research Grant” for the Project titled "Optimization of High Yield Biodiesel Production from Fish Oil using Nano-catalyst and Performance Evaluation in Diesel Engine" under TEQIP Programme from VTU Belagavi.

Prof Ajith is Co-Principal Investigator for a Research Project worth Rs. 13.5 Lakhs titled “Production of Biodiesel from Fish Oil on Extracting Omega-3 Fatty Acid from Fish Oil" under research Promotion Scheme (RPS) funded by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. He completed a Consultancy project on Technical Audit of Marine Export Unit at TADADI, U.K District worth Rs. 10 Crores. He also guided four projects funded by KSCST, Government of Karnataka and one project funded by VTU- Belagavi. He is the In-charge of Sahyadri Center of Excellence “Advanced Energy Research Lab (AERL)”.

He has published research articles in six International and five national journals. His Research areas are Alternative Fuels, Renewable Energy and Internal Combustion Engines. He has been in the teaching field for the last four years handling subjects such as Basic Thermodynamics, Applied Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Turbo Machines, Heat and Mass Transfer, Power Plant Engineering. He is a life member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

Mentees’ Details:
• Vaishnavi D Adappa, is from Bantwal. She pursued her schooling from Sharada Vidya Nikethan Public School, and PUC from Pana P U College. Her hobbies are singing, painting and playing throw ball. She aspires to join Indian Navy as Naval Officer.

• Majal Ibrahim Shaz is from Mangaluru. He pursued his schooling from Kanachoor Public School and PUC from Pandyarajah Ballal P U College, Mangaluru. His hobbies include playing cricket, football and reading novels. He aspires to become a Design Engineer.

• Samartha Shetty is from Brahmavar. He pursued his schooling from Viveka Boys High School and PUC from Viveka P U College, Udupi. His hobbies are playing chess, cycling and reading novels. He aspires to join Indian Navy as a Naval Officer.

• Nikhil Nayak T is from Mangaluru. He pursued his schooling from Canara High School and PUC from Mahesh PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing cricket, table tennis and volleyball. His aspiration is to become an Entrepreneur.
