Sahyadri organizes its Annual Alumni Meet - 2019 The Annual Alumni Meet of Sahyadri was organized in the campus to celebrate and refresh old relationships and form new ones. The event witnessed around 200+ Alumni from various branches of study including engineering and MBA. The Chief Guest of the event was Ms. Ramya K, Depot Manager, KSRTC, Mangaluru.

Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal welcomed the gathering to this Reunion event. In his speech he highlighted the developments and achievements of the institution. He placed before the audience a proud picture of the various initiatives and students’ achievements in academics by attaining VTU ranks, and also sports and cultural events at the campus.

While proudly speaking about the accolades and accreditations awarded to Sahyadri Dr Kunte explained how Sahyadri has grown by leaps and bounds over a short span of 12 years since its inception. He stressed on the importance of Alumni support in NBA accreditation process. He requested the Alumni to participate in “Sahyadri 10K Run” a flagship event of Sahyadri to be conducted in association with Dakshina Kannada District Athletics Association on 02-02-2020. “Mark this date in your calendar”, he urged the Alumni.

Ms. Ramya K in her speech appreciated the initiatives taken at Sahyadri which helps in overall personality and knowledge improvement of students. She also mentioned how these initiatives, during her period of study helped her in getting an Officer Grade job from the Government of Karnataka. She thanked Sahyadri Management and Faculty for their constant support in nurturing her during her stay at Sahyadri which helped her in gaining her current position as Depot Manager, KSRTC, Mangaluru.

Mr. Suhan Shetty, Alumni of 2012 Pass out Batch and Mr. Chinmay of 2019 Pass out Batch gave a nice feedback appreciating the initiatives and growth of Sahyadri. They thanked the management for organizing the Alumni Meet which has given them the opportunity to get connected to the institution, faculty and friends. Mr. Prakhyath Rai, General Secretary, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management Alumni Association, initiated the open discussion on extending the association by opening a Bengaluru Chapter and organizing a meet at Bengaluru.

All the Alumni appreciated this discussion and assured of their support in framing the Bengaluru Chapter and organizing the event at Bengaluru. Ms. Rashmi Bhandary, Dean- Placements, proposed Vote of Thanks and in her concluding remarks thanked the chief guest and all the alumni for attending the Meet and making it a grand success. Her message to the Alumni is “Do well in life for you both professionally and personally” as Alumni growth directly reflects to growth of institution.

The inaugural Programme was followed by fun-filled gala evening which included exciting games, camp fire and cultural extravaganza hosted by the Alumni. The Alumni cherished the chance to come back to their Alma Mater and relive their memories. They also appreciated the growth of the institution and assured to join hands and take Sahyadri to greater heights.

Gowjee Event Management, Mangaluru, a start-up by Sahyadri Alumni Mr. Manish, were the Event Managers.

A Research Article entitled " Deep-learning Framework to detect Lung Abnormality –A study with chest X-Ray and lung CT scan images" authored by Mr. Abhir Bhandary, PhD Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science & Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor, Dept of Computer Science & Engineering has been published online in Elsevier Journal "Pattern Recognition Letters" Volume 129 2020.

Research Highlights:
• This work proposes a novel deep-learning framework to evaluate lung abnormalities
• This work implements:
(i) A deep-learning technique to assess the chest x-ray to examine pneumonia
(ii) The deep-learning technique to assess the lung CT image to examine lung cancer.
• A detailed evaluation of the proposed technique (Modified AlexNet) with AlexNet, VGG16, VGG19 and ResNet50 are presented.
• This work also presents an Ensemble-Feature-Technique (EFT) to classify lung CT images with better accuracy.

Mentor-Mentee System at Sahyadri A whole decade has gone by and a new Decade is all set to usher in. Many of us are stepping into the new Decade with the intention of having New Year’s Resolutions. But how many of us actually go through with it? Let’s pause for a minute and think how we can help people whom we leave behind after we are gone.

Well! Here’s a Sahyadrian who has taken a firm decision or a New Year’s Resolution - one could say - to pledge her eyes after her lifetime. Ms. Diana Rita D’Souza, Office Assistant- Technical Career Education Pvt Ltd, a Sahyadri Start-up, is the donor.

Ms Diana took the pledge under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counselor. Her name is registered as a Donor, in the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO).

Introduction of the Mentor:

Prof. Pateel G P pursued B.E degree in Electronics & Communication from SLN College of Engineering, Raichur and M.Tech degree in Digital Communication and Networking from UBDT College of Engineering, Davanagere. Has a teaching experience of 6 years.

Introduction of the Mentees:
Akhilesh P is from Mangaluru. He pursued his schooling from Mount Carmel Central School, and PUC from Expert Pre-University College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are acrylic painting and reading astrophysics books. His aspiration is to be placed in a reputed company and become a successful engineer.

Prithvi C S is from Mangaluru. She pursued her schooling from St. Joseph English Medium High School and PUC from Mahesh PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are dancing and listening to music. She has won prizes in football and hockey at Taluk and District level. Her aspiration is to become a successful engineer.

Anitha P M is from Sullia. She pursued both her schooling and PUC from Government P U College, Sullia. Her hobbies are yoga, dancing, reading novels and playing games. She has won 1st prize in kho-kho and 2nd prize in ball badminton at Taluk level, 2nd prize in yoga at Taluk level. She has also won prizes in cultural activities at Taluk and District level. Her aspiration is to become a successful engineer.

Chintal Pearl Frank is from Belthangady. She pursued her schooling from Holy Redeemer English Medium School and PUC from Vani Pre-university College, Belthangady. Her hobbies are dancing and reading books. Her aspiration is to be placed in a reputed company and to become a successful engineer.

Shripada is from Udupi. He pursued his high school from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Udupi and PUC from Amratha Bharathi PU College Hebri. His hobbies are reading novels, and playing cricket. His aspiration is become a successful engineer.
