MBA makes you a better Entrepreneur, a Journey of an MBA student towards Entrepreneurship

Ms. Nidhi R Bhandary, who is currently pursuing her MBA in 3rd semester, is a pioneering entrepreneur. Right from her childhood, handicrafts and art works were her interest. With the increasing emphasis on start-ups during MBA course at Sahyadri, Nidhi realized that her hobby of making artworks could be taken one step ahead with a Business Model. She made creative Dream Catchers, tried new designs and posted on her Instagram page - Wall-hangings, Desk hangers, Car Dream Catchers, Dream Catchers key chains etc.
During lockdown in her leisure time, she decided to practically apply the concepts of MBA in real life - cost allocation, delivery of products, pricing the products, advertisement etc.
She promoted the artwork among her batch mates and faculty members. This saw increase in her client base and lot of people in her friend circle and relatives started placing orders. She does customized Dream Catchers as per the requirements of the clients in terms of colour combination, occasion of the gift, size, and shape and so on.
At the initial stage, she faced a lot of challenges as there was delay and difficulties in getting the raw material and also delivery of products to the customers through postal services and private couriers. At several instances, she personally delivered the products to the customers.
Dream catchers are handmade willow hoop which is a handicraft art. By self-learning through YouTube videos and enhancing her skills she further established her start-up by launching it on Instagram and named it as “SMILES FOR MILES”.
She refers to this journey as the best phase of her life as she was exposed to various challenges like handling the customers, taking order, preparing journals, packing the products, dealing with dealers for raw materials and so on. The prime objective of her start-up is to meet the gifting requirements of the customers as gifting Dream Catchers are meant to bestow good luck at reasonable price.
Ms. Nidhi R Bhandary is the daughter of Mr. Ramesh Bhandary and Ms. Shwetha Bhandary who have been a great support throughout her journey.
