Job & Skill Training Camp Held at Sahyadri

The much awaited Job & Skill Training Camp under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), a Govt. of India, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship was inaugurated in the august presence of Sri Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, D. K., Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Hon’ble Opposition Party Chief Whip, Karnataka Legislative Council, Sri Manish Kumar, CEO, Rooman Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, the Training Partner for National skill Development Corporation, Sri N K Mohapatra, CEO, ESSCI and other dignitaries from government and the industry. Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was the venue partner and Rooman Technologies was the training partner.

Hiring executives from sixty-four companies from IT, ITES, Retail, Banking, Telecom, Healthcare, Consulting and many more sectors converged at the campus. 3000 SSLC, pre-university, graduate, postgraduate and diploma holders visited the Job & Skill Training Camp in the hope of getting a job in one of these reputed companies. 120 candidates received offer letters on the spot. 900 candidates have been shortlisted for the second round of interview and 500 candidates have enrolled themselves for the PMKYV training.

Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in his inspiring speech to the gathering said that a degree is only a passport to getting a job but with barely 2% of unskilled youth coming out of colleges, has created a big lacuna in the workforce. He thanked MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, for providing the opportunity to conduct the job fair in the Sahyadri Campus and the people who worked hard for this programme.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, DK, explained the importance of gaining skills to earn ones livelihood. He said that the one underlying aim of conducting such a camp is to create job opportunities for the youth of the country. He added that the Job & Skill Training Camp is a small initiative to make the Prime Minister’s dream come true. He thanked the chairman and the management for providing the venue for the occasion. N. K. Mohapatra, CEO, ESSCI, in his speech to the gathering said that the government is committed to ensure that youth develop skills to match industry requirement and this is where Rooman Technologies acts as the bridge between the companies and the unskilled youth to train them to match industry requirement.

Manish Kumar the CEO of Rooman Technologies, the Training Partner, explained how the company trains unskilled youth. He also gave hope to those not selected saying that they can still enroll for a training program by registering on the online portal (www.naukari.com). He said that there are plenty of requirements for skilled manpower. He briefly threw light on The National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) which will come into effect from November this year.

NSQF is a competency-based framework that organizes all qualifications according to a series of levels of knowledge, skills and aptitude. These levels, graded from one to ten, are defined in terms of learning outcomes which the learner must possess regardless of whether they are obtained through formal, non-formal or informal learning. All other frameworks, including the NVEQF (National Vocational Educational Qualification Framework) released by the Ministry of HRD, stand superseded by the NSQF.

Sri Rajeev Pratap Singh Rudy, Union Minister of State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship & Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, addressed the audience through Skype saying that he was extremely happy to know that 3000 candidates participated in the Job & Skill Training Camp. On behalf of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and on behalf of his ministry he congratulated all the candidates and thanked MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and also the chairman, Manjunath Bhandary for organizing the camp. He assured that as the economy grows more sectors and jobs will be created for the youth.

The Valedictory of the Job & Skill Training Camp saw a host of dignitaries such as Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, D K, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Hon’ble Opposition Party Chief Whip, Karnataka Legislative Council, Sri Purushotham Chithrapura, Deputy Mayor, Mangaluru City Corporation, Sri Manish Kumar, CEO, Rooman Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, along with Sri Prakash Kotian, Centre Director, Rooman Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Mangaluru and Sri Rajesh Naik U. who coordinated the entire event.

Manish Kumar the CEO of Rooman Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, congratulated all the candidates and wished them the best of luck. He thanked everyone for making the event a grand success. He promised that shortly a training centre in collaboration with Sahyadri will be opened in the campus.

Students and HR executives gave their feedback with one student saying, “No one has gone back disappointed.”

Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Hon’ble Opposition Party Chief Whip, Karnataka Legislative Council, shared his experience and said that students should hone their skills when in college itself so that when they finish their course, there are employable with the required skills. He advised that this camp should be an eye-opener for all the candidates and the learning received today should be taken as a learning curve and this should be converted into an opportunity. He ended by quoting,” A thousand-mile-long journey commences with the first step in the right direction.” Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, DK assured that all the candidates shortlisted will be provided jobs and reiterated that students should not lose hope but develop skills to make them employable. He thanked the chairman and the management for the success of the event.

Rajesh Naik U., event coordinator, wished all the very best to the selected and shortlisted students. He thanked Manjunath Bhandary, the chairman, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, DK, the staff, student volunteers and the media for their role in making the event successful.

SAHYADRI International Journal of Research officially launched with
Vol. 1, Issue 1

K.P Murthy, Consultant-Skill Development, KP Murthy & Associates, officially launched the online version and Rajashekar Hiremath, President, Flexitron, launched the print version of the international journal titled ‘SAHYADRI International Journal of Research’. The journal has appeared online: www.sijr.in. The email address of this journal is : [email protected]. ISSN number for both online and print version is pending.

K.P Murthy said that this is a great effort by the editorial team as well as design team of the journal; he also stated that only a very few institutions have their own international journals. Hiremath stated that this is an important milestone in the history of the institute and he encouraged students and faculty members to publish their original findings and innovations in this journal. Prof. Richard Pinto, Chief Editor of this journal acknowledged the effort by the editorial team and design team and congratulated them for the launch of this journal. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, stated that this is a great beginning and gives a platform for faculty and students to publish their original papers. Prof. S.S Balakrishna, Vice Principal was present during the function. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, congratulated the editorial team and conveyed his best wishes.
