Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 Kick Starts at Trisha College, Udupi

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is an inter-collegiate quiz competition organized by Department of Business Administration with an objective to stimulate undergraduate students to bring themselves up-to-date with the latest news and developments in the areas of Marketing, Business, Finance & Banking, Human Resource & Indian Economy.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is conducted in two stages – Campus Round (Written Quiz & Campus level Quiz Round) which shall be held in the respective undergraduate colleges and Grand Finale which will be held in Sahyadri Campus on March 10th’2017.

As a part of the Campus round, Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 kick started with the faculty and student volunteers from Department of Business Administration visiting Trisha College, Udupi. Around 80 students participated in the quiz. Four teams of three each are selected for the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Mega Finals in Sahyadri Campus.

Tomorrow at Sahyadri

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore (IISc) will be conducting computer based Test for the prestigious Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2017). It will be conducted in 4 different phases for various disciplines. The first phase of examinations will be conducted Tomorrow in two different shifts - Morning: 9.00 to 12.00 Noon and Afternoon: 2.00 to 5.00 PM. More than 300 candidates from all over the country are expected to take part in the tomorrow’s exam.

GATE is an All-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Science. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy etc.) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. Recently, GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings (i.e., government-owned companies) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India. It is a great honour for Sahyadri to conduct an exam of this kind.

Day 2 of the NAAC Peer Team Visit

The Day 2 of the NAAC Peer Team visit comprising of Dr. G.S. N. Raju, Former Vice-Chancellor, Andhra University, Dr. Vidhyadhar Reddy Aileni, Former Dean Professor, Department of Management, Osmania University and Dr. Appasaheb A Keste, Principal, M.E.S College of Engineering, Pune began with the visit to various Engineering Departments of the institute. They also had a look at the operations of Support services like Placement, Food Court, Auditorium, Indoor Gym, Sports Arena, Hostel, Transportation, Bio Gas Plant, CENT. The team was then interested to review the Administration Department which included Admissions, Finance and Examination Section. The NAAC Peer team also interacted with the Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff.

French scientist visited Sahyadri for collaborative Research work

Dr. Michael Neumann-Spallart, Scientist from CNRS, France visited Center of Excellence in Nano-science and Technology (CENT) for collaborative work in nano-science and technology, specifically in the fields of devices using pulsed laser deposition. He appreciated the quality of equipment set up at CENT particularly, Excimer Laser Compex PRO 201, Coherent GmbH, Germany and the PLD system from Excel Instruments, Mumbai stating that they are among the best in the world. He was appreciative about the support from the management in initiating advanced research at Sahyadri.

CNRS, a French National Center for Scientific Research, is the largest government research organization in France. It is also the largest fundamental science and multidisciplinary research organization in Europe covering areas of mathematics, physics, information and communication sciences and technologies, nuclear and high-energy physics, earth sciences and cosmology, chemistry, life sciences, humanities and social sciences, environmental sciences and engineering sciences. It employs 32,000 permanent employees (researchers, engineers, and administrative staff) and 6,000 temporary workers.

Dr. Michael has been visiting TIFR and IIT Bombay for collaborative work during the last 25 years when Prof. Richard Pinto was a part of these institutions. Dr. Michael had words of praise for the ambience of Sahyadri campus especially the open space and architecture. He has also shown interest in initiating scientific collaboration with Sahyadri.
