MBAs present the Union Budget 2017-18

Union Budget programme has been organised by the Department of Business Administration for the last two years inviting eminent personalities delivering their views on the Union Budget, however this year, for the very first time, the students of MBA shared their opinions through Presentation & Discussion on “Union Budget 2017” covering distinct sectors of the nation like Agriculture, Rural, Railways, Tourism, Education, Health Care, FDI, Infrastructure, Defence, Housing, Taxation, Communication & IT, Make In India & Manufacturing. Dr. Shripathi Kalluraya, Economist, Mangalore University, CA Prabodh Nayak, Mumbai & CA Dinesh Pai, Bantwal were the resource persons of the programme who shared their inputs in addition to what the students presented.

This began with the LIVE streaming of the Union Budget 2017-18 on Feb 1st 2017 for the MBA students in the seminar hall, which then led to students presenting their views in groups of 4 in their respective classes. On the basis of the presentation, 9 students were picked for today’s event. As a further course of action, our students shall present the Union Budget 2017 in their respective degree colleges in order to create awareness among the youth.

During the Inaugural Ceremony, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration, welcomed the gathering to the platform of knowledge sharing wherein the financial information is converted to wisdom. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, reiterated that MBA course is to be lived and not just studied and hence programmes of this nature are organised wherein the students involve enormously and critically evaluate the Union Budget as it has a great influence on everyone’s life for the next one year.

Takeaways of the session include:
• As students we should analyse the background in which the budget is presented and not judge the presenter as good or bad.
• Analyse the budget in a scientific perspective and not political perspective as one will always be biased to the political party we favour.
• Focus should have been on Challenges in Marketing the Agricultural products and Price fluctuations between the producer’s price and the end customer price.
• Policy makers should pay attention to the Agricultural Productivity/Yield Rate as it is low.
• There should have been emphasis on R&D as it matters a lot when a nation needs to progress.
• Strengthen the Defence sector through Capital Investment on defence equipments.
• Health Care and other service sectors should focus on the Quality of service rather than allocating funds.
Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman who was a part of the entire programme appreciated the Department of Business Administration for guiding the students and executing this programme which was his plan of action for the development of the students. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks given by Prof. Raghavendra Prabhu, faculty coordinator of the event. This programme shall be telecasted in V4 Channel.
