Dept. of Civil Engineering organized “Military Awareness Programme” & Inauguration of Army Medals Exhibition

Military Awareness Programme Military Awareness Programme “Military Awareness Programme” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering in association with SPACE. The guest of honour was Mr. Colonel Rajmannar, Director of Army Recruitment Office, Mangaluru; Dr. K G Shenoy, Ex-Captain, Indian Army and Mr. Shree Prakash, Former Sergeant of Indian Army. Prof. Balakrishna SS, Vice-Principal escorted the dignitaries and florally welcomed the guests. The members of SPACE lit candles to pay tribute to the brave CRPF soldiers in Pulwama

Military Awareness Programme Attack. Mr. Colonel Rajmannar addressed the gathering and also conveyed deep sympathies to the families of the CRPF Jawans killed in the attack. Mr. Colonel Rajmannar was a part of the Kargil War and has been awarded by the Chief of Army Staff and Army Commander. He has also worked with the top scientists of the country on various projects. Dr. K G Shenoy spoke about the role of engineers in the Indian Army and motivated the students to join the Indian Army. He was commissioned in Indian Army as Captain in 1987 and has served for 5 years in NEFA and Kutch area.

The programme was then followed by displaying a motivational video on "The Indian Army: We do the impossible - Miracles may take longer" to show their role in ensuring national security and national unity.

Dept. of Mechanical Engineering organized GATE Awareness Programme

GATE Awareness Programme GATE Awareness Programme In view of encouraging the students of the department to pursue higher education and competitive examinations, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering organized an Awareness Programme on GATE. Prof. Ananth Pai, Proprietor & Faculty-Academy in Pursuit of Engineering Excellence (APEX) facilitated the session. In his session, he briefed about the importance of GATE in the career growth, core subjects involved in the competitive exams, information about reference sources and also the opportunities after clearing competitive exams.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Strata Geosystems

Strata Geosystems conducted a Campus Recruitment drive at Sahyadri for the Civil Engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. A total of 35 students participated in the recruitment process and the results are awaited.

CapitalVia Global Research Limited visited Sahyadri to conduct a Pool Campus Recruitment drive for all branches of 2019 outgoing batch. A total of 259 students from pool colleges participated in the recruitment process. The results are awaited.



Workshop on “Research Paper Publication” by Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering

Research Paper Publication Research Paper Publication Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering organized a workshop on “Research Paper Publication and its importance” for final year students. The first session was facilitated by Prof. Bharath Bhushan, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering in which he emphasized on skills needed to write a Research Paper for reputed indexed journals. He also gave information about the standards of various journals and conferences. This was followed by hands-on session on Paper and Report writing skills using Latex by Dr. Pushpalatha K, Dept of Computer Science & Engineering. LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system which includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation.

First Year Engineering Students attend Three-Day Camp at World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru

Three-Day Camp at World Konkani Centre Vineet Nayak S, M Vishwas Kamath, K Samarth N Kamath, Karthik and Vrashank Rao from first year engineering attended the Three-Day Camp at World Konkani Centre, Shakti Nagar, Mangaluru. This camp focused primarily on Self Development, Communication Skills and Leadership ability. It also included a Webinar with the students pursuing their Master in the United States of America. These 5 students were at the peak with full dedication and excitement during the three-day event. It also helped in building connectivity among most of the students from different parts of the country. This centre, started in the year 2009 provides scholarship opportunities to various konkani speaking students every year and grooms them as future leaders.

Introduction of the Mentor:

Prof. Ravichandra is currently working as Dean Industry Connect and Head-Dept. of Mechanical Engineering. Earlier, he worked as the Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at Nilai University, Malaysia. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Automobile Engineering from Kuvempu University and Master of Engineering in Manufacturing from University of Malaya, Malaysia. His PhD is from University Technology Malaysia on Low Carbon Emission Vehicles. He is an academician with fourteen years of teaching and four years of industrial experience. He is active in professional bodies like Institute of Engineers Malaysia, Society of Automotive Engineers, Indian Society for Technical Education and International Association of Engineers. His field of interest is Lithium Ion battery for heavy applications, Renewable Energy Sources, Sustainable Engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics. He has vast exposure in teaching and learning skills, like application of Outcome Based Education, Blooms Taxonomy, Continuous Quality Improvement under the regulations of ABET and Washington Accord.

• Sandeep Jat is from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. He pursued his high school from Kendriya Vidyalaya-1 Panambur and PUC from Central Public Senior Secondary School, Kota. His hobbies are playing Football. During first year BE he represented Sahyadri in Robo Race and Dirt Race Competition at NIT Calicut. He is associated with Team Challengers for SAE Aero Design and participated in Aero Design Competition at Florida, USA. His ambition is to be an Aero Design Engineer.
• Abhiram Chandar is from Kasaragod. He pursued his high school and PUC from Greenwoods Public School, Kasaragod. His hobbies are playing football, table tennis, badminton. He is also interested in Chess and Carrom. He also participated in State level Table Tennis Championship. During his First Year BE, he was part of the team representing Sahyadri at IIT Madras for Robo Competition. His ambition is to be an Automotive Design Engineer.
• Bassam Mohammed is from Mangaluru. He did his SSLC and PUC from International Indian School in Saudi Arabia. His hobbies are playing Football and Badminton and represented his School in Interschool Competitions. During his first year BE, he was the member of team which participated in Robo Competition at IIT Madras. His ambition is to be an Automotive Design Engineer.
• Mohammed Bilal is from Kasaragod. He pursued his high school and PUC from Greenwoods Public School, Kasaragod. His hobbies are Football, Swimming, Badminton and represented Kasaragod District team during high school and represented Sahyadri in VTU Inter-collegiate Football event. During his Fist Year BE, he represented Sahyadri in Robo Race competition at BITS Pilani. His ambition is to be an Automotive Design Engineer.
• Bhushan S Banajan is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school from St. Aloysius Urwa and PUC from St. Aloysius Kodialbail. His hobbies are playing cricket, badminton and listening to music. During his First Year BE, he represented Sahyadri in Robo Competition at NIT Jamshedpur and won best innovation Robo. His ambition is to be an Automotive Design Engineer.
• Vishal K Kanchan is from Udupi. He pursued his high school from Vidyodaya Public School and his PUC from Vidyodaya PU College Udupi. His hobbies are Football, and Badminton. In addition to this, he is passionate in Drawing. During his First Year BE, he represented Sahyadri in Robo Racing competition at IIT, BHU. His ambition is to pursue higher studies in the field of Automotive Engineering in Germany.
• Nishvith P H is from Kodagu. He pursued his high school from Saverapura English Medium High School, Kallugundi, and PUC from Nehru Memorial Pre University College, Aranthodu. His hobbies are Cricket, Volleyball, and Badminton. He participated in National Level Quiz Competition and Robo Competition at IIT Kanpur. His ambition is to be an entrepreneur with engineering background.

IoT Callenge 2019
Around 100 participants from 10 colleges across Karnataka comprising of 30 teams would be participating in this event. Top 5 will be selected for National Level Fest to be held in IIT Bombay during March 16th to 17th’19
Indian Coast Guard (ICG) visits Sahyadri
