Exploring Technology opportunities in Shrimp Farm

As a part of the Social Innovation Program, Mr. Gouse Khan, Manager NAIN; Mr. Prajwal S Shetty, Final year student of Mechanical Engineering; Ms. Ashwija, Third year student of Information Science & Engineering; Mr. Vijeth, Third year student of Mechanical Engineering and Ms. Abhinaya final year student of Information Science & Engineering had visited Shrimp Farms near Mulki on 1st February 2021.
Initially, the team visited the farm of Mr. Stevan D’souza who was cultivating shrimp since 14 years with his brother Sunny D’souza. He helped them understand the need for the Dissolved Oxygen (DO) monitoring system and shared his experience and knowledge on different experiments like biofloc method, nanobubble creation for maximum oxygen diffusion in the pond to get a good yield. He also discussed different problems faced by the shrimp cultivators.
Next, the team visited Mr. Pramod who owns a shrimp farm and a shrimp cultivation consultant having experience of 6 years in this field. He gave suggestions to implement the DO monitoring system and was enthusiastic to bring engineering solutions to the problems faced by the shrimp cultivators.
Both of them shared their experience in the field, informed about the different approaches taken to solve the problems, and helped the engineering students to come up with technology-based solutions for the community problems.
