Research workshop for doctoral candidates organized by the Karnataka Govt. Research center

The Karnataka Government Research Center conducted a research workshop titled "Research workshop for doctoral candidates" at Sahyadri Campus.

The Hon'ble Vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, Prof. K. Byrappa, was the Chief Guest for the inaugural programme. In his key note address he explained the importance of research and shared his experience. He also appreciated the vision of Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman to make Sahyadri a research and innovation driven educational institution. He stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research citing his research experience as an example.

The Guest of Honor, Prof. Richard Pinto, IITB, center for excellence in nanotechnology gave an overview about evolution of science from ancient Greek days. Prof. B. N. Karkera explained some of his exhaustive research work in BARC. Dr. Umesh. M. Bhushi, Principal gave the presidential remarks and the vote of thanks.

A crash course on Time and Energy Management in Academia was delivered by Dr. Gautham Jeppu from the research center. Dr. Manjappa, Director Research & Consultancy gave a motivational talk to faculty and shared some of his experiences on how he built a research center in the 1990s when undergraduate colleges were not allowed to carry out research or guide PhD candidates. Dr. Jayarama, Dr. Manu and Dr. Mariadas shared their experiences and guided the participants. The workshop concluded with a question and answer session.

Unaisa Begum with 75.67% has topped the Sahyadri College in the Information Science Engineering, Semester VII Examination of 2014-15 held by VTU. Sharada Y obtained the second position in the college with 72.11% while Malathi Pai with 70.00% stands third. Thirty one students took the examination of which three students obtained a first class with distinction; twelve students obtained a first class while eight students obtained a second class, bringing the overall percentage score of the department to 74.19%.

Valedictory Function of Finishing School Programme

The Valedictory function of Finishing School Programme was held in Sahyadri Campus. This Ten Days event was supported by Vishvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and in association with Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (|), Indian Concrete Institute, Karnataka , Mangalore Centre and Government Research Center, Sahyadri and industrial partners were Ramco Cement, Ultratech Cements and CADD Centre Mangaluru.

The Valedictory session began with a short video presentation of ten days activities and events. Er. Anandakumar S. K, Managing Director, Master Plannery, Puttur was the Chief Guest. In his address Chief Guest highlighted the activities & initiative taken by Dept. of Civil Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.
Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman appreciated the role of Finishing School Programme and emphasized strong need for development of engineering skills for Civil Engineering Students. All the participants were satisfied with the content, delivery, presentations and the topics covered during the programme.
