Students Undergo Internship at Various Companies

Nithin B, Akhil Menon, Jithesh Shetty and Gerald K, Semester V, Department of Electronics & Communication have successfully undergone a ten-day internship at M/s Smartlink Network Systems Limited based in Goa. The internship was facilitated by Prof. Ashwath Rao, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The students were given hands-on training on different electronic devices. They tested, configured and diagnosed devices such as motherboards, modems, Wi-Fi routers, switches and closed circuit cameras.

Thirty-six students of Semester VI of the departments of Computer Science and Information Science Engineering attended an internship programme under the reference of Prof. Jinto Thomas, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Prof. Rithesh Pakkala, Department of Information Science & Engineering held at DJIT Soft, PIO Mall, Kodialbail, Mangaluru. The four-week internship had two weeks of training and two weeks of project work. The training programme comprised basics of HTML, JavaScript and PHP. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HOD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering was the chief guest at the valedictory function to mark the close of the internship programme.

All the Electronics & Communication Engineering students of third and fifth semesters attended a three-week BSNL internship at BSNL, Main office, Pandeshwar, Mangaluru. During the internship students received practical hands-on experience on devices used for Optical Fiber Communication, Digital Switching, Mobile Communication etc. Students also got an opportunity to visit BSNL work station and interact with officers working in the field. This internship was coordinated by Prof. Prasanna Kumar, Prof. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, and all the faculty members of Electronics & Communication Engineering Department under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Jose Alex, HoD, of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

Tomorrow at Sahyadri

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore (IISc) will be conducting the computer-based Test for the prestigious Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2016). It will be conducted in 4 different phases for various disciplines. The first phase of examinations will be conducted in two different shifts - Morning: 9.00 to 12.00 Noon and Afternoon: 2.00 to 5.00 PM. Approximately 525 candidates from all over the country are expected to take part in the exam.

GATE is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Science. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy etc.) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. Recently, GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings (i.e., government-owned companies) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India. It is a great honor for Sahyadri to conduct an exam of this kind.

Rajashekar Hiremath, President, Flexitron Visits Sahyadri

Rajashekar Hiremath, President, Flexitron, visited Sahyadri and had a fruitful interaction with the students on social innovation. He gave insights on what is social innovation and how a social enterprise can arise. He also produced some of his own case studies on how to solve a social problem by make the society better. He also appreciated Sahyadri for the kind of support and freedom it has given to the faculties and students to innovate and learn.

FLEXITRON is dedicated to design, manufacture frugal innovations of products in alternative energy, aids and appliances for the physically challenged and products for use by the poorest at the bottom of the human pyramid.

Rajashekar Hiremath has over 300 plus innovations in varied fields like solar photovoltaic’s, wind energy, led lighting, empowerment equipments for the rural population, textiles, khadi, ceramics, disability aids, silk , artisan equipment and tools . He has extensive ‘hands on’ experience of over 30 years in design, development and production of aids, appliances and systems for ‘Barrier Free Access’ of the challenged population and geriatric persons. He has been conferred with four National Awards by the Government of India in the field of innovation. Off the four awards three awards are for the best innovations for the physically challenged.

K. Naga Tejaswi with 73.20% has topped the Sahyadri College in the Computer Science & Engineering, Semester VII Examination of 2015-16 held by VTU. Manaam Asra obtained the second position in the College with 72% while Khatheeja Nishana with 71.20% stands third. Out of one hundred and eighteen students who took the examination, six secured a distinction, fifty-eight students a first class and thirty-one students a second class bringing the overall percentage score of the department to 80.50%

In the Mechanical Engineering, Semester VII Examination of 2015-16 held by VTU, Akshay Bhandary with 86.10% has topped the Sahyadri College while Rakesh obtained the second position in the College with 81.70% and Abdul Ahad Ali with 80.50% stands third. Out of one hundred and forty five students who took the examination, thirty-eight secured a distinction, fifty-six students a first class and eighteen students a second class bringing the overall percentage score of the department to 77.24%

Global Automation Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Global Automation conducted an online test for recruitment in the campus. 143 students of final year engineering, MCA, MBA and M.Com. of pool colleges participated in the drive. 9 students from Engineering and 11 students from MBA have been shortlisted for the next round.

Global Automation, Inc. provides large-scale distributed systems to both established and emerging companies. The company builds and integrates custom networked software applications. It was founded in 1992 with offices in the United States at Mountain View, California, and in India at Bangalore.
