Director-MBA speaks as the Innovation Ambassador of Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Ministry of Education, Govt. of India

drvishalsamarta BVVS Autonomous, Bagalkot, a premier technical Institute in North Karnataka invited Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director–MBA, for a session on ‘Innovation Development’. In her address, she urged the students as well as faculty members to get into groups and work on any idea, which could be further refined by mentors. A small idea could lead to a wonderful innovation. She stressed on the Sahyadri culture followed with respect to student’s innovations and how each of these were mentored by experts and led to government funding. As many as 15 student’s projects are funded for the innovations which initiated in the campus when they were in their first year. The ideas were developed from Prototypes to Proof -of -Concept from where the viable ones were proposed for government funding. Dr. Samartha further emphasized that, Innovation is no rocket science; it only requires the persistence to believe in your ideas and take it to reality.

Students visit Shrimp farms to identify opportunities in the shrimp farming sector

As a part of the Social Innovation Program, Mr. Gautham Nayak, Program Head, Centre for Social Innovation; Mr. Thilak V S and Ms. Abhinaya, Final year students of Mechanical Engineering Dept. & Information Science Engineering Dept. and Ms. Ashwija, third year Information Science Engineering Dept. had visited shrimp farm in Koni, Kundapura on 23rd Jan, 2021.
The objective of the visit was to identify opportunities in shrimp farms and to identify the need for shrimp monitoring systems in shrimp farms and other problems faced by aquaculture farmers.
The team interacted with Mr. Shridhar Hegde, a shrimp farmer and also spoke to the Head of Shrimp farm association, Kundapur regarding the social Innovation program and the objective of the visit. He facilitated the team across the shrimp farms, explained the whole process of shrimp cultivation and the problems faced by the shrimp farmers. According to him, the implementation of technology that can decrease the production cost will help in addressing the needs of shrimp farmers. He gave insights on different stakeholders who play important roles in the process of shrimp farming like seed and feed providers, technicians, and so on. The team collected enough data related to the problems they face and valuable insights in order to improve the efficiency of shrimp culture.

Commemoration of National Voter’s Day

Commemoration of 11th National Voter’s Day was held at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management on 25th Jan, 2021. The Students and Staff of Sahyadri College took the pledge to participate actively in all the elections and democratic process of our Nation. The theme for this year’s National Voter’s Day being, ‘Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed’, emphasizes on active and participative voters during elections. It also focuses on Election Commission of India (ECI’s) commitment towards conducting elections safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Social innovation Team participated in the Eleventh Scientific Advisory Committee meeting

As part of the Social Innovation Program, Mr. Gouse Khan, District Innovation Associate-NAIN, Mr. Prajwal Shetty, final year student & Mr Sathwik S Kumar, IInd year student both from Mechanical Engineering Dept had participated in the Eleventh Scientific Advisory Committee meeting, co-ordinated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dakshina Kannada, Mangaluru on 23rd Jan, 2021.
The motive of the program was to bridge the gap between technology and farmers. Dr. V Venkatasubramanian, Director of ICAR Bangalore had suggested the panel on valuable insights about the current market trends and technological advancements in agriculture. There was a panel discussion by the Farmers, Entrepreneurs and Scientists on the various problems that were identified and possible solutions to tackle them. Mr. Gouse Khan gave a brief description of the Social Innovation Program and how students at Sahyadri have been trying to tackle real world problems. Dr. Venkatasubramanian emphasized on the need to empower youth in agriculture and asked to find a way to connect farmers from different villages together. Students had an opportunity to interact with various farmers who shared their valuable insights on the problems being faced in the agricultural sector.

The 72nd Republic Day Celebrations will be held in the campus at 9.00 am. Sahyadri is happy to have Mr. Abhijit Shetty, Vice President, Juego Studios Pvt Ltd, Mangalore as the Chief Guest for this national event.
