Faculty Development Programme 'Winning Ways' Gets Underway in the Campus
The two-day faculty training programme, `Winning Ways’ was inaugurated by the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. In his inaugural speech he highlighted the need for training to bridge the gap between student and industry. A good teacher today is not just a transferor of information or knowledge, but a link for the student with the industry as well. He called upon the teachers to not only transfer knowledge, but build them for industry. In this context, he said two things are important; one, the belongingness towards the institute and second the teacher’s attitude towards the student should be positive.
Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi emphasized the need to integrate with students, re-engineer our own process and to redefine wining for the growth of the institution.
The resource person of the day, Mr. Ramkumar Seshu, Founder, Born to Win Learning Services, Bangalore, spoke about the four phases of life. First, the data phase, where we use data to build a model, second, the information phase, where data gets packaged as information, third phase, is the knowledge phase, which is the present phase of organized information e.g. Google, Yahoo and the fourth phase is the wisdom phase e.g, WhatsApp and Facebook. In the wisdom world, we are moving from a win-lose situation to a win–win situation.
He spoke about the three kinds of learning; first, I know, and I am doing it, second, I know, but I am not doing it and third, I don’t know, and I need to start doing it. When you apply knowledge, the result is either positive or negative and that is wisdom. He called upon the participant’s to wear three caps; as a participant, as a wisdom worker and an inspirer’s cap.
Principal, Vice Principal, heads of the departments and a total of thirty faculty members participated in this programme. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, Head, Department of Training. The training programme will develop the leadership perspective that will help them inspire their students become role models and also develop an institution perspective and hone their skills on a continuous basis. This training intervention will address the issues of managing self, inspiring people, excellence at work and wining in a dynamic environment.
