Introduction of speakers of TEDxSCEM 2019
The countdown for TEDxSCEM which is being hosted at the campus has already begun. TED Talks comes with the slogan "
ideas worth spreading." So, today, we introduce 3 more speakers – distinguished personalities from medical, innovation and agriculture domains. They will be spreading their noble ideas to the audiences.
Dr. Rohan Chandra Gatti
"
I am simple and love to converse with creative people" says Dr. Rohan Chandra Gatti, a Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Mangalore Institute of Oncology, Mangalore. He has more than ten years of experience and has specialized in minimally invasive and organ sparing therapies. He is also the Head of Department of Surgical Oncology at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangalore.
Dr. Gatti’s qualifications include MBBS, MS in General Surgery and MCh in General Oncology. He is considered one of the best oncologists of our times in Mangalore.
Swastik Padma
Mr. Swastik Padma, an "Innovator by heart, Entrepreneur by mind", has a minor planet named after him. This honor has been extended to Swastik, taking into account the distinction he had achieved in the International Level Science and Engineering Fair, 2018. He has been conferred with this honor by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lincoln Laboratory and International Astronomical Union. During his participation in ISEF-2017, he had made an item using slag with non-reusable plastic, which was 24 times stronger than iron. He won a special award for this discovery. During a similar event in 2018, he had developed a paper slip that can diagnose malnutrition among children six months in advance. He also developed a paper slip that can detect oral cancer much in advance.
For his achievements, Mr. Swastik Padma bagged the Second Grand Award. He is a proud recipient of the National Child Award which was presented to him by the President of India last year.
Kavitha Mishra
Mrs. Kavitha Mishra, presently a part of the agriculture sector says, “We want to encourage farmers to grow forest and fruit trees together as it supports biodiversity and secures their livelihood. Fruit trees generate income monthly or yearly, while forest trees are fixed deposits for the retirement, when it is difficult to do physical work. Above all the monetary reasons, every individual must grow trees for contributing for the betterment of this planet so forest and fruit trees are the best pick!”
Mrs. Mishra did Masters in Psychology and also holds Diploma in Computer Science. She got the opportunity to work for an IT company but refused the offer and turned into a farmer, instead. “I belong to an agriculture family therefore since childhood I was interested in farming,” she justifies.
Mr. Gautham Nayak of DTLabz attends a Collaborative Design Workshop
Mr. Gautham Nayak, Design Led Innovator from DTLabz took part in a 4 Weekend Collaborative Design Workshop titled “RE-VISION DWCC”, which was held from 24th May 2019 to 15th June 2019 in Bengaluru. The workshop was anchored by BBMP's Solid Waste Management Cell and co-organised by the Indian Institute of Architects (Karnataka Chapter) and Sensing Local. A 30 member interdisciplinary team consisting of Architects, Civil Engineers, Urban Planners, Urban Designers, Product Designers, Waste Management professionals, Service Designers, Sociologist, Sustainability professionals, and MBA professionals were shortlisted for the workshop.
The activities in the workshop consisted of audit and collaborative re-design of 166 neighbourhood dry waste collection centres (DWCC) across the city of Bengaluru. The collaborative design session involved enquiring the feasibility for expansion to augment capacity and improve daily working, plugging in of new programming such as upcycling/recycling/drop off zones etc, as well as inclusion of amenities for waste workers.

Board of Apprenticeship Training (SR) is an autonomous body under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
