Data - The New Gold, & Data Scientists – The New Miners!

Gold has always been treated as a profitable long-term asset since and many people still rely and choose gold as an investment. However, from the past few years, companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc., are investing more on data collection and data is being foreseen as more precious than gold.
What does data comprise off?
• Your online purchases or E-commerce pages visited on any online shopping portal like Flipkart or Amazon.
• Day – Day groceries, Essentials, Gifts, and food ordering through Swiggy & Zomato
• Casual browsing on social media handles like Instagram, Facebook,
• Video content on YouTube and OTT platforms like Amazon, Netflix etc.
The data viewed and broadcasted through aforesaid mediums will strike out individual behaviour based on their choice and preferences. This valuable data on the said human behaviour will indirectly help a huge commercial arena in the virtual world to advertise and sell their product.
Data collection expands to other fields like sports and has become the essential 4th component of a team apart from Coaches, Support Staff and Players.
According to sources, we get around 120 Zettabyte of data (1 Zettabyte = 1 Billion GB). To make sense of this huge data collection, we would need skilled minds; those skilled individuals are termed as Data Scientist.
A Data Scientist is a professional, responsible for collecting, analysing and interpreting extremely large amount of data. These professionals need to have detailed understanding of coding, mathematics, domain knowledge and visualization skill as shown in the figure below. An average entry-level Data scientist salary ranges from 5 Lakhs INR P.A. to 7 Lakhs INR P.A. depending on the company and required skill set. According to some recent statistics from the U.S Labour department, data science field will grow exponentially to 46% through 2026. Luckily many universities and college have started Data Science Engineering Courses to facilitate students to become Data Scientist.
Do you like to be the one who mines the new Gold i.e., “Data”?
