Scope for Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is one of the most evergreen branches of engineering which over time, has contributed to several innovations. Considered to be one of the oldest branches of engineering, Mechanical Engineering deals with the concepts of thermodynamics, fluids, mechanics, and structural analysis. The scope of mechanical engineering is vast, relevant, and ever-evolving even today. These concepts are used in designing some of the best and most efficient state-of-the-art motor vehicles, manufacturing units, aerospace, aircraft, chemical, construction, defence, electronics, consumer goods, marine, materials, metals, pharmaceuticals, rail, and utilities as well as other industrial machinery. Apart from the machinery and vehicles, mechanical engineers significantly contribute towards the development of power equipment, engines, and complex machinery systems. It goes beyond designing and manufacturing and spans its presence even over the maintenance and testing of such machinery and equipment, thus stamping the responsibility and authority of Mechanical Engineers. The scope of Mechanical Engineering no longer remains merely limited to manufacturing and testing of huge machinery and equipment. With the onset of Global technology development making new advancements and inroads, there are several new domains and avenues in mechanical engineering that are being taken up by passionate engineers. These domains include robotics, new materials, nanotechnology, computer-aided design, geomechanics, etc. The two highly pursued domains are robotics and mechatronics, both of which combine the knowledge of mechanical engineering with other streams to deliver state-of-the-art products. Mechanical Engineering as branch stands TRUE to the term Engineering. A term derived from the Latin Ingenium, meaning "cleverness" and ingeniare, meaning "to contrive, devise". It boasts of some well-known names who have the best inventions to their credit in general and service to the society to make it a better life to live in particular. Famous names like George Stephenson, James Watt, Nikola Tesla, Rudolf Diesel, Charles Babbage, Thomas Alva Edison, Karl Benz, etc are some of the few who have brought laurels to Mechanical Engineering in the past and the count is going on......
