Robotic Process Automation - “Learn How to learn”

Automation is a technology that deals with the application of machines and computers to the production of goods and services with minimal or nil levels of human intervention.
Currently there is not even a single segment of human life that is untouched and unaffected by automation. To cite a few examples, Self-driving cars, Airplanes, Household Electronic Appliances, Security and Surveillance Appliances, Banking, Medicine/Surgical Procedures, and Smart Industrial Manufacturing. In the digital world, automation and software development are two different terms. It’s often noted that, one is confused with the other. Developing a book-keeping management system is called software development, while programming a step ahead so that no human intervention is required is referred as automation.
What should be automated?
• Time consuming jobs
• Repetitive, Monotonous and Mundane tasks being done every day.
• Low quality yield tasks
• Alerting tasks in case of any Fault OR Fault arising tasks.
What can be automated?
• Well defined tasks and rule-based steps
• Benefits that are more than the cost incurred
• Logical Tasks
• An input to the task can be diverted to the software system.
Today Automation has reached a stage of maturity wherein fairly large number of other technologies have developed from it. Robotic Process Automation is one such transformational burgeoning area. In simple terms, RPA uses a software that mimics the human actions while interacting with applications on a computer and accomplishing rule-based tasks. The key technologies that have been adopted with RPA are Machine Learning, Natural language processing and Computer Vision. With the advent of RPA, it has become much easier to automate tasks. All we need to know are the steps taken by humans and make the Robots mimic the same action.

Some of the RPA development platforms include Automation anywhere, UiPath (open source), WorkFusion, Blue Prism and Thoughtonomy and KOFAX. Thus, the key attribute here would be to, take over the routine and tedious tasks and in the bargain provide humans with an opportunity to make better use of their capabilities by recognizing and adapting to the changes quickly.
