Team Lowen Women onboarded under the Nidhi Prayas Scheme at Deshpande Startups

Lowen_Women Team Lowen Women with members Ms. Krithika Shetty and Ms. Ayeesha Rasha, Second year students of Information Science & Engineering Department had won a Nidhi Prayas Grant of INR 3 Lakhs by DST, Govt. of India from Deshpande Startups, Hubli for the idea of a Dysmenorrhea Massager Belt which helps to tackle the problem of primary dysmenorrhea. A large number of women are held back due to dysmenorrhea (the medical term for painful periods). They are unable to carry out their daily activities and resort to using pills for temporary relief, which causes many side effects in the long run. Lowen Women aspires to make women’s daily life easier by bringing them relief from this problem with their revolutionary massager belt. The formal onboarding process to Deshpande Startups was held on 15th June 2021 in the presence of the CEO of Deshpande Startups - Mr. Ravij Prakash; Director - Ms. Priya Nagaraj; Deputy Director - Mr. Amrut Patil, along with the mentors of the team - Mr. Gouse Khan, Mr. Gautham Nayak and Mr. Johnson Tellis. During their 18-month incubation period, the team will be developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of their idea.

Phase II: AICTE Sponsored One-Week STTP on “Innovative Approaches in Teaching Pedagogy”

AICTE Day Two (15th June 2021):
Dr. Pratima Khandelwal, Lead Facilitator – Pedagogy for HEIs & Soft Skills Trainer – NPTEL (IIT Madras) on the topic - “Flip Method of Teaching”
Dr. Pratima Khandelwal holds a Ph.D in Food Technology and Process & Food Engineering. She has contributed in FDPs organized by Infosys Campus Connect-InfyTQ, BITS Pilani, and Biocon Academy. She has been a lead speaker for AICTE-ATAL & ISTE based FDPs in states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Pratima emphasized on the Application of Blooms Taxonomy and also shared the various ways through which Flipped Classroom can be conducted. She introduced the participants to Jamboard and Menti.com. She also spoke about Know Your Teacher (KYT) and Know Your Student (KYS). In her concluding remarks she mentioned that the combination of Flipped Teaching and Active Learning would result in Amazing Educational Possibilities.
Dr. Sampath Kumar, Associate Dean (RDIC), Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow on the topic - “Competency Based Learning”
Dr. Sampath Kumar is a B.E, M.Tech and Ph.D from UPTU in association with IIT Delhi. He has 4 patents in the field of Memory Design.
Dr. Sampath Kumar explored on variety of perspectives and shared the information with a humble recognition that, as a field, we are early in the shift from time-based to learning-based as the key milestones in education, where “learning is constant, and time is the variable”. Competency Based learning can be an effective model, potentially reducing inefficiency and increasing pedagogical precision and student achievement.
Mr. Mohit Shetty, HR Business Partner at Infoblox India and visiting faculty at Christ University Bengaluru on the topic –“Real Time Case Study Analysis”
Being at the forefront of the changing landscape of Human Resources for rapidly evolving and growing companies in Bengaluru, Mr. Mohith Shetty has varied experiences along with teaching.
Mohit began his presentation with an overview of a classic Case Study and its usefulness in teaching pedagogy. In addition, he said that apart from the written case study, we could explore innovative ideas like podcasts, video documentaries, video commentaries, news editorials and blogs to keep the students engaged and interested in the subject matter of study.
Dr. Srinath M S, Professor and Head, Department of Industrial & Production Engineering, Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan on the topic - “Blended Learning”
Dr. Srinath M S has done his M.Tech in Advance Manufacturing at NITK, Surathkal and has got his Ph.D in Manufacturing from IIT Roorkee. He is the recipient of Young Scientist for Research (under SMYSR) for the year 2012-2013 from Vision Group on Science & Technology, Department of IT, BT and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka.
Dr. Srinath M S in his session touched upon the changing learning atmosphere and the necessity for the teaching fraternity to adapt to these changes. He emphasized on how the education sector is slowly shifting from being teacher-centric to student/learner-centric. Some of the tools he discussed for the implementation of Blended Learning included SimLab+, Virtual Lab, Robotics, Creative Presentations etc.

Faculty Members Recognized as Skill Trainers under MSDE & NSDC, GOI - Certified by BRIDGE & MEPSC

BRIDGE BRIDGE (BOSCH Initiative) and Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPSC) conducted a “Train The Trainer” (TTT) program spanning over 5 days in an online mode. This training was followed by a dual assessment approach, wherein the first one was a theoretical and subject based assessment followed by Face2Face Interview.
Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA Program; Dr. Sukanya Rao, Dept. of Business Administration and Prof. Soumyashree, Dept. of English, have successfully completed this training, cleared the assessment and have received an Accredited Certification from MEPSC & Bosch. They are registered as a Certified Skill Trainer under Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). They can hereafter, be aligned with the Skill Development training projects of Government and other agencies. BRIDGE - an initiative of Bosch India Foundation initiated this programme for present and potential trainers. This is an important initiative in view of National Education Policy to be implemented from 2022 session.
Recently, Sahyadri had a MoU with The Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD), Mangaluru/Udupi Chapter which is opening multiple opportunities for Faculty and Students.

Faculty Members, Dept. of CSE complete ATAL FDP on "Artificial Intelligence and its Applications”

FDP Prof. Pooja N S, Prof. Suketha, Prof. Vanishree B S, from the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, completed the AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy Online elementary FDP on "Artificial Intelligence and its Applications" held during 7th June to 11th June 2021 by Government College of Engineering, Nagpur.
