Inauguration of Toycathon 2021

Toycathon Toycathon 2021 was inaugurated at 8AM on 22nd June 2021 over a virtual Platform.
Dr. Rajesha S, Principal, delivered the introductory note on Toycathon 2021 wherein he mentioned that Sahyadri is fortunate to be part of this mega event and become one of the Nodal Centers of Toycathon 2021 virtual version. He appreciated the hard work of Core committee members of Sahyadri headed by Dr. Shamanth Rai, Head of ISE Dept. and also thanked Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and Dr. S Manjappa for their continuous support and encouragement to take up challenging assignments like Toycathon which showcases the Indian tradition to the world.
Chief Guest Dr. Gopal Mugeraya, Director, NIT Goa thanked Sahyadri for inviting him and allowing him to share his views on this unique Toy Story called Toycathon-2021. He was amazed by the phenomenal growth that was achieved by Sahyadri in the recent years and was indeed quite fascinated by the three-dimensional growth of the institution.
Notable points in his speech:
· The Toy market globally is around 7 Lakh Crores.
· Out of this the Indian market stands at 1.5 Billion US$
· 80% of Toys in India are imported.
· These Toys don’t have any distant connect with our culture and roots.
· It just adds pollutants in the form of Toxic plastic and Toxic paints.
So if we intend to change the market dynamics and retain that revenue which is getting drained to those Foreign Toy manufacturing units, then we will have to stop using those toys and start manufacturing Toys indigenously.
Dr. S Manjappa, Director-Research, in his Presidential address, mentioned about the offline programmes in the upcoming months that will be hosted by Sahyadri as Nodal Centre as per AICTE. He pointed out that if our Indian students, Technocrats and visionaries try to develop indigenous toys for the purpose of education, entertainment and social development then there will be an increase in Revenue generation which will lead to in-house development activities.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Shamanth Rai, Coordinator, Toycathon 2021.
