Commemoration of World Environment Day

Environment Environment1

In commemoration of World Environment Day on June 5th, Sahyadri NSS Unit and Sahyadri Pupils Association of Civil Engineers (SPACE) Dept. of Civil Engineering jointly observed the day by planting saplings in the Campus. Mr. Krishna Kumar Poonja, Chairman, Sevanjali Trust, Farangipet; Mr. Pradeep Kumar Shetty, Representative from Adyar Area; Mr. Devdas Hegde, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation; Dr. Rajesha S, Principal and other key functionaries planted saplings in the Campus. More than 25 saplings were planted during the occasion. Ecosystem loss is depriving the world of carbon sinks, like forests and peatlands, at time humanity can least afford it. Global greenhouse gas emissions have grown for three consecutive years and the planet is at one pace for potentially catastrophic climate change. The emergence of COVID-19 has also shown just how disastrous the consequences of ecosystem loss can be. By shrinking the area of natural habitat for animals, we have created ideal conditions for pathogens – including coronaviruses – to spread. With this big and challenging picture, the World Environment Day has focused on ecosystem restoration and its theme is “Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.” Sahyadri is committed to protecting and preserving the environment for future generations.
