Chairman along with Dean-Placement & Director-MBA attended Karnataka Coastline Business Conclave- 2021

Karnataka_Coastline_Business_Conclave_2021 Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman along with Ms. Rashmi Bhandary Dean-Placements and Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director- MBA attended the Karnataka Coastline Business Conclave 2021 at TMA Pai Convention Centre, Mangaluru on 21st March’2021. Minister for Major and Medium Industries Mr. Jagadish Shettar presented the ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ from FICCI to the successful entrepreneurs of the coastal region. Mr. Shettar said that if tourism is to be promoted on a big scale in the coastal belt, there is a need to relax some rules that have become a hindrance for the promoters to invest and take up tourism-related activities.
Chairman, Karnataka Chapter of FICCI, Mr. K Ullas Kamath who is the Joint MD of Jyothy Laboratories Ltd., Bengaluru said that there is a need to create jobs for generation next and industries should grow beyond Bengaluru.
The “Outstanding Leadership Award” was presented to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) for establishing Coastal Karnataka as a strategic energy security region of the country. Managing Director of MRPL Mr. M Venkatesh received the award.
The “Lifetime Contribution Award” was presented to Nitte Vinay Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University, for making coastal Karnataka an Education Hub.
The “Outstanding Contribution Award” was presented to four persons – Dr. Ushaprabha Nayak, Vice-President, Expert Group of Institutions, Mangaluru, for nurturing the coastal region as an Education Hub; Mr. Pradeep G Pai, Managing Director, Hangyo Ice Creams Pvt. Ltd., for developing the coastal region into an ice-cream goblet of the country; Mr. Bola Surendra Kamath and Sons, Karkala, for making the coastal region a Cashew Processing Hub and Ms. Vathika Pai, Head-Nirmala Travels, Mangaluru, for being a young woman leader of industry and commerce in the coastal region.
The “Social Entrepreneurship Award” was announced for Mr. Padmanabha Kamath, an interventional Cardiologist who has set up Cardiology and Doorstep (CAD) Foundation and established a network of ECG machines and is saving many lives.

ECE Student Secures Third Place at National Level Coding Competition

National_Level_Coding_Competition Raynol Menezes from Team Challengers, a Third Year Electronics & Communication Engineering student participated in C-Way, a National Level C Programming Coding Competition organized by Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) as a part of a 3-day event - Technovanza. He secured third place in the event among students from various colleges across the country.
Team Challengers is a unique Technical hub that provides massive opportunities in various fields like Aero-modeling, Aerial, and Ground Robotics thus helping students boost their technical skills.

First year ISE student wins Gold Medal in 400 Mtrs Swimming competition

Swimming_competition Aditya Bhandary of first year Information Science & Engineering participated in Nandini River Festival Swimming competition and won Gold medal in 400 Mtrs Swimming competition held at Sasihithlu on 20th & 21st March’2021.

Article of a Ph.D. Research Scholar published in Soft Computing Journal (Q1, Springer)

Article_of_a_PhD1 Article_of_a_Ph.D2 A Research article entitled "Performance enhancement of generative adversarial network for a photograph–sketch identification " authored by Mr. Sannidhan M S, Ph.D. Research Scholar, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering has been published in a Q1 Springer Journal "Soft Computing" in March’2021. The journal is dedicated to system solutions based on soft computing techniques with an impact factor of 3.050 indexed in all the major indexing repositories including Science Citation Index, Web of Science and Scopus.
Following are the highlights of the research article:
• This research paper has investigated an adversarial network toward achieving color photograph images out of sketches.
• Classification of photo images using the pre-trained transfer learning models for the process of identification.
• Implementation of a novel sketch generator based on the gamma adjustment technique to enhance the performance of adversarial network.
• Experimental results evidenced the similarity the score of above 90% and classification accuracy of more than 70%
• Comparative analysis portrayed in this work also attests that the proposed technique performs ably better than any other state-of-the-art techniques.

AAO and Student Counsellor participate in a Three-Day State Disaster Response Team Training organized by Indian Red Cross Society

Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer and Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor attended a Three-Day State Disaster Response Team (SDRT) Training organized by Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch and Centre of Excellence for Disaster Risk Reduction, NITK - Surathkal. The training was hosted by IRCS, D K Branch, Mangaluru during 19th March to 21st March’2021. The training aimed at creating a response team at the state level that would be ready to act during disaster to help the victims and reduce loss of life. They were trained in emergency first-aid, mass casualty rescue, disaster management strategies, fire safety, relief activities and rehabilitation. Representatives from 14 districts attended the training wherein, Ms. Shreelatha UA and Mr. Ankith S Kumar represented IRCS Dakshina Kannada district.
