Sahyadri College of Nursing Celebrates its Graduation Day

Sahyadri College of Nursing Celebrated its Graduation Day -2015 in the Campus. Rev. Fr. Patrick Rodrigues, Director, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangalore was the Chief Guest.

Students in their graduate attire marched to the venue to the accompaniment of the band followed by the Chief Guest and the faculty. Ninety-nine students of nursing took the oath and received their graduation certificates on this auspicious day.

Rev. Fr. Patrick Rodrigues conveyed his best wishes to the graduates and gave a call to them to become good nurses but most importantly to be good human beings.

Prof. (Mrs.) Irene Veigas, Principal, College of Nursing, presided over the function. She presented a brief report on various activities held during the academic year. Mrs. Neetha Kamath faculty member welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Shanthi Moras another faculty member rendered the Vote of Thanks.

Kochi - Muziris Biennale 2014

Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) Fort Kochi, Kerala hosted its second edition Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2014 -Whorled Explorations, curated by Jitish Kallat. Mr. Kedige Vasanth Rao, Media Consultant, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management visited Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2014 for two days. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an international exhibition of contemporary art hosted in the city of Kochi, India. The Biennale draws on the rich tradition of public action in Kerala to become a platform for cultural and artistic engagement. The second edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale opened on December 12, 2014 and ran for 108 days till March 29, 2015. It featured 94 artists from 30 countries.

It is an international contemporary art fest and its story is unique to India’s current reality- Art Exhibition, History Now, Artists’ Cinema, Student Biennale, Children Biennale and Cultural programmes were the various events during the two days. The main venues were Aspinwall House, Cabral Yard, Pepper House, Vasco Da Gama Square, David Hall, Kashi Art Gallery, CSI Bungalow at Fort Kochi and Darbar Hall at Ernakulum. Kochi-Muziris Biennale is unfolding through a polyphony of artist forms as varied as the minimalist poem, sculptural installations, vlog-speech, drawing, paintings, video and performance.

‘Akhyana 2015’ - a Communication Fest

‘Akhyana 2015’ - a Communication Fest, was inaugurated by Mr. Ram Mohan Pai Maroor, Vice President, Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Director, Maroor Group; Toastmaster, Winners Club. He spoke on the importance of Communication in our lives especially in the corporate world. Dr. Anthony, Vice Principal of our college, was the President. He highlighted the importance of communication skills and called upon the students to build their communication skills to excel in all spheres of life. The Student Head for Training, Ms. Jyothsna Rai, welcomed the guests and judges. Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, HoD, Training, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Mr. Shreyas Shetty.

The finals of Debate, Mad Ads, Pick and Speak, Turncoat, and Picture Description were conducted. The external judges were Ms Matilda Pinto, DTM, Winners Club Toastmasters & PortTown Advanced toastmasters, Ms. Samina Nayak, DTM, Winners Club Toastmasters & PortTown Advanced toastmasters, Mr. Shashikanth, Area Governor, Ms. Sujatha Kotian, Mangalore Toastmasters & PortTown Advanced toastmasters and Mr. Brian Fernandes, Winners Club Toastmasters & PortTown Advanced toastmasters.

The internal judges were Mr. Shreesha, Department of IS, Mr. Sunil B.N, Department of CS, Ms. Ankitha K., Department of CS and Mr. Sharath Chandra, Department of EC.

CA. M. N. Pai, Director – Achal Cashews Pvt. Ltd.; Lieutenant Governor Marketing, District 92, 2014-15, Toastmasters International was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory function. He gave insights into the importance of communication through several anecdotes and emphasized the need for communication in corporate life.

The Inaugural of the ‘Oratocrats Gavel Club’ was done by the Chief Guest, Mr. M. N. Pai in an innovative way by signing on the book, ‘The Secret Treasure of Knowledge’. He also gave away the prizes to the winners of the various events.

Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, HoD, Training, introduced the functionaries of the Oratocrats Gavel Club. Prof. Uma Shankar, Dean Academics, and President of the function, called upon the students to make use of the club to build their communication and leadership skills. Mr. Karthik Ramakrishna of the Oratocrats Gavel Club gave an insight into the history of the club and how the club has helped them build their public speaking skills. He also proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Ms. Panchami Pradeep.

Sahyadri Girls’ Cross-Country Team Emerge the Champions for the Second Consecutive Year

Sahyadri Girls’ Cross-Country team emerged the Champions for the second consecutive year and the boy’s team won the second Runners-Up trophy held at GNDCE, Bidar. Fifty-Five colleges participated in the meet.

Vidhya, Nandini G., Anusha Hegde, Jayashree, Hithartha ,Vinutha B and Manjushree are the team members in the girl’s section and Arpith, Rakshith Raj, Midhun Jyothis, Nishwin Pal, Sandeepa P, Sachinkumar, Sarvesh, Runalf and Sannidhi Shetty are the Team members in the boy’s section.

Novigo Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Recruitment Drive

Novigo Solutions Pvt. Ltd. conducted a campus recruitment drive. 300 IS, CS and EC engineering students of the 2015 batch from pool colleges participated in this drive. 52 students have been shortlisted for the interview round. The final results are awaited.
