ECE student successfully completes internship in National Design and Research Forum (NDRF)

Ms. Nishal Nivya Rodrigues, student of final year Electronics and Communication Engineering has successfully completed her internship in National Design and Research Forum (NDRF) on “Generating Cognitive Event-Related Potentials (ERPS) Stimuli Using Psychopy – An Open-Source Stimulus Program” under the guidance of Dr. Mahesh Jayachandra M.D., Ph.D. Head, Bio-Engineering Group, NDRF, Bengaluru. Nishal has extended a heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mahesh Jayachandra and Dr. K. Ramachandra, Director, NDRF, for their guidance and support during the internship and also thanked NDRF for the opportunity to interact with Lt. General [Retd] Dr. V J Sundaram and other distinguished scientists.

Her guide Dr. Mahesh Jayachandra has appreciated the work of Nishal and said that she did an excellent job given the short time she had (1 month), to delve into a completely new field.

For Nishal, it was a great opportunity for learning and professional development and a privilege to have met eminent personalities during the internship period. National Design & Research Foundation (NDRF) is a premier Indian research and development organization promoting collaborative interdisciplinary research and development. It is actively involved in Technological Research, Design, Development, Innovation, and Program Management of large, interdisciplinary Indian Technological Research Programs.

Dr. B K Keshavan from PES University visited the campus

B K Keshavan from PES University visited the campus Dr. B K Keshavan is a Dean of Academics & Evaluation at PES University. He is a Ph. D from IIT Bombay in “Power System Reliability” and has 36 years of teaching experience. He is currently guiding 4 research scholars and 4 have already been awarded their Ph.D under his guidance. He was awarded the “Centre of Excellence in High Voltage & Power System” from Vision Group on Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Karnataka and received a grant of Rs. 60 Lakhs.

Dr. B K Keshavan met the Principal, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte and visited all departments along with the various innovative centres in the campus. He was appreciative of the strategies involved with a futuristic approach in all initiatives of Sahyadri.

Mechanical Engineering students on an Industrial visit Mechanical Engineering students on an Industrial visit The students of Third year Mechanical Engineering visited various industries with an objective of gaining industrial exposure. The students visited Trident Hydro solutions and Omkar industries in Belagavi on the first leg of the industrial tour. Further, they also visited Astra metal Pvt Ltd, Goa. The students were accompanied by Prof. Pavithra Ajagol and Prof. Dennis Pinto. During the visit, the students got a first-hand experience of various cutting edge facilities and gained insights in the field of manufacturing. Interaction with the engineers also gave an opportunity to discuss about the impact of automation and various challenges faced in manufacturing units. Students explored the possible internship opportunities in the field of manufacturing.

Technical Session on Virtual Labs by NITK faculty to the students of Civil Engineering

Technical Session on Virtual Labs by NITK faculty to the students of Civil Engineering Dept. of Civil Engineering in association with SPACE conducted a technical session on Virtual Lab for the pre-final year students. The talk was conducted by research scholars of NITK, one among those was Ms. Aishwarya Shetty, an alumna of Sahyadri 2017 pass out batch. The session emphasized the use of virtual labs in helping the students in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation.

A virtual lab is an Initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development under the National Mission on Education through ICT. It provides remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering. It also provides a complete Learning Management System around Virtual Labs where the students can avail the various tools for learning, including additional web-resources, video-lectures, animated demonstrations, and self-evaluation. Students of 2nd and pre-final year Civil Engineering were benefitted through the session.

‘RangHoli-2019’ in Sahyadri Campus

The celebration was filled with fun, colours, laughter and dance. Colours and refreshments were served to the students participating in the event. Prof. Suchetha G. is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Science and Engineering. She completed her Bachelor of Engineering and M. Tech from NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte with Computer Science & Engineering as specialization. She has a total of 7 years of teaching experience of which 3 years she worked as a Lecturer in Alvas Institute of Engineering and Technology, Moodbidire. She has published two Papers in international journals. Her areas of interest are Data Mining, Machine Learning, Internet of Things and Cyber Security.

Introduction of the Mentees:
• Dhanush R. Shetty is from Madikeri. He has pursued his high school from Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan Kodagu Vidhyalaya, Madikeri and PUC from Sharadha Vidhyanikethana PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing hockey, basketball and traveling. He visited NIT Sikkim and IIT Mandi in his first year of Engineering for participation in various technical events. At NIT Sikkim he participated in line follower and hydraulic arm competitions and won second and first place respectively. At IIT Mandi, he participated in line follower and hurdle rush and won second in hurdle rush. He aspires to work in a reputed IT company.
• Sagar Shetty is from Kundapura. He pursued his high school from Sandeepan English Medium School and completed PUC in R.N Shetty PU College, Kundapura. His hobbies are playing cricket and indoor games. He aspires to join Navy or Indian Army and wants to serve the nation.
• Levlyn M. Almeida is from Mangaluru. She pursued her SSLC from Ladyhill Victoria Girls High School and PUC from St. Agnes PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are cooking and playing outdoor games. She wants to pursue her Masters’ and work in a reputed institution.
• Thikshna is from Mangaluru. She pursued her SSLC from Amritha Vidhyalayam, and PUC from St. Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are playing badminton and cooking. She aspires to work in a multinational IT company.
• Akshatha R.N. is from Hubli. She pursued her SSLC from Marikamba High School, Sirsi and PUC from Prism PU College, Dharwad. Her hobbies are playing badminton, sketching and painting. She is a district level badminton player. She has participated in various technical events in her 1st year of engineering. In ROBOTIX held in IIT, Kharagpur she won overall championship. In EXODIA help held in IIT, Mandi she won first prize in Robo Race. In her second year of engineering she participated in TECHKRITI held in IIT, Kanpur. She aspires to become a good web developer.
• Shravya K.B. is from Mangaluru. She pursued her high school from St. Ann’s High School, and PUC from St. Agnes PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are playing badminton, sketching, cooking and painting. She aspires to become an entrepreneur.
• Poorvika G. is from Belthangady. She completed her high school from Sacred Heart English Medium School, and PUC from Sacred Heart PU College, Madantyar . Her hobbies are reading, singing and dancing. She participated in Kshithij dvent held at Kharangpuru. Further, she also participated in SAE International held at California, USA. She participated in an event held at NITC, Kerala. She aspires to become a software engineer.

• TEQIP 1.3 sponsored Three-Day workshop on “Aspects of LTE 4G” is organized by department of Electronics and communication Engineering in association with VTU, Belgavi. The workshop is being held to give insight to the faculty members of VTU about the progress of Long Term Evolution (LTE) with specific reference to 4G. Course on LTE 4G has been introduced in the CBCS scheme for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in communication related streams. The workshop is being conducted to facilitate the faculty of VTU engineering colleges to understand the course contents and to get a brief overview about LTE and its components from experts.
