Chairman meets the 1st Rank Achiever and the Ultra Tech Gold Medal Awardee in VTU Exam 2017-18 Ms. Pavithree B. Shetty, First Rank holder in Computer Science & Engineering and the recipient of 4 Gold Medals from VTU and Ms. Sthuthi K A from the Department of Civil Engineering who is awarded with “UltraTech” Gold Medal for having secured highest marks in the subject Concrete Technology met the Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Chairman was extremely delighted with their presence & congratulated both for their outstanding achievement. He gave a roadmap for their higher studies & appraised them on Top Universities having courses with upcoming technologies.

10th Rank holder in VTU MBA Exams 2017-18 visits his alma mater Recently, the VTU Rank list was released and the Dept. of Business Administration celebrated the 2 Ranks secured by its students – 5th Rank and 10th Rank. Mr. Varun K, currently working at KPMG GDC, Bengaluru as Audit Associate visited his alma mater to express his gratitude for the ongoing support rendered by the department in his achievement of securing 10th Rank in VTU MBA exams 2017-18.

He spoke to the first and second year MBAs and shared his success story. He gave input on how he was able to make his dream of securing a rank come true. He said – A student from a rural background dreaming of a rank is not easy hence he doubled his efforts by teaching his fellow classmates which strengthened his confidence in the course curriculum. He added – Sahyadri is a hub of opportunities and visited IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Indore for Management fests and workshops. He urged his juniors to capitalize on the opportunities in attending conferences, pursuing additional projects apart from VTU projects during vacation. He aspires to be a Teacher and is attempting UGC NET soon.

Aspects of LTE-4G Dr. M.H Kori, Former Technical Director, Alcatel Lucent Technologies During the Day One of the workshop, Dr. M.H Kori, Former Technical Director, Alcatel Lucent Technologies spoke on the topic – “Key Wireless technologies driving 4G and 5G”.

RDL conducted a One-Day IoT Workshop at NITK RDL conducted a One-Day IoT Workshop at NITK A One-Day IoT Workshop was conducted as a part of MoU jointly signed by the Department of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology and RDL Technologies. The workshop was conducted in the premises of IT Department of NITK with participation from more than 45 students. The IoT Engineers of RDL Technologies delivered the talk insisting on the need and benefits of familiarizing about the IoT. Motive of the workshop was to create awareness among students about IoT and provide hands on experience through simple IoT projects demonstrating the real time applications and potential of IoT using IoT Trainer kits which are designed, manufactured and delivered by RDL Technologies. Students took part in the hands-on sessions to gain insight into the area of IoT using these IoT trainer kits and appreciated the benefits of both the IoT Trainer Kits and workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Geetha V, Assistant Professor and Dr. Soumya S Kamath, Assistant Professor, IT Department NITK; Ms. Nutan; Ms. Dhanya; Mr. Pradeep Kumar and Mr. Surendra from RDL Technologies.

Django Girls Workshop conducted by SOSC

Django Girls Workshop conducted by SOSC Sahyadri Open Source Women's Community (SOSWC), another initiative by SOSC exclusive for women to encourage more women in technology, conducted their first workshop for women in association with Django Girls Mangaluru at Sahyadri.

Django Girls is a non-profit organization and a community that empowers and helps women to organize free, one-day programming workshops by providing tools, resources and support. They are a volunteer-run organization with hundreds of people contributing to bringing more amazing women into the world of technology.

The free One-Day workshop comprised of building a blog using the Django framework and deploying it LIVE on to the internet. Along with the students from Sahyadri, we had enthusiastic female students from other colleges of Mangaluru region.

Pool Campus Recruitment Drive - RS Group

Pool Campus Recruitment Drive - RS Group RS Group, conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Mechanical engineering students of 2019 outgoing Batch. A Three-member recruitment team headed by Mr. Prasad Shetty, Managing Director; Mr. Lazar Thobias, Director Operations & Ms. Smitha B N - HR Manager were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 129 students attended the drive and the results are awaited.

Introduction of Mentor:

Mr. Adesh Padival B. is an assistant professor in the department of Mechanical Engineering. He pursued his B.E in Mechanical Engineering from VTU, Belagavi and M.Tech in Engineering Management from Manipal University. He is having two years of teaching experience. He has published research papers in reputed journals and presented his ideas in two conferences. His area of interest are bio diesel systems, machine design and total quality management.

Introduction of Mentees:
• Tejas J. Acharya is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school from St. Aloysius High School and PUC from St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru. His hobbies include painting, sketching, playing cricket and listening to music. He also has participated in drawing competitions and won several prizes. He aspires to become design engineer in a reputed multinational company.
• Yateesh P. is from Davangere. He pursued his high school and PUC from Siddaganga Composite High School, Davangere. His hobbies include playing cricket and chess. He aspires to become a thermal engineer in an automobile company.
• Mahim Monteiro is from Puttur. He pursued his high school and PUC from St. Philomina College, Puttur. His hobbies include playing cricket and football. He has completed ‘C’ level certificate in NCC. He aspires to work in a reputed manufacturing firm.
• Abhishek B. is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school from St. Joseph’s School, Koyla and PUC from Brilliant PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies include playing badminton. He aspires to work in automobile company.
• Shivanand is from Honnavar. He pursued his high school from G.H.S Allanki and PUC from Government PU College Allanki. His hobbies include playing volleyball and football. He aspires to work in a reputed firm.
• Sandesh S. is from Udupi. He pursued his high school from T.M.A Pai High School and PUC from Trisha PU College, Kalyanpura. His hobbies are coin and stamps collection. He aspires to work in a reputed design company.
• Nitesh is from Belthangady. He pursued his high school from Ujire and Diploma in Prasanna College, Ujire. His hobbies include playing cricket. He aspires to work in a reputed manufacturing company.

• Salute to our Soldiers-In service of our nation
In recognition of the great service and sacrifice done by our Soldiers for our freedom, Sahyadri NSS unit has organized a felicitation for the Servicemen of the Armed forces. We have invited Captain Prashanth Kashyap and Mr. Ganesh K, Retd. Junior Warrant Officer to felicitate them for their service. In this occasion, Cap. Prashanth Kashyap will address our students about the career opportunities in the armed forces.

• Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies – SIMS is visiting Sahyadri to conduct a Campus Recruitment Drive for the Mechanical Engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. A total of 14 shortlisted students will be interviewed for the position of Graduate Marine Engineering (GME).

Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) is a one (1)-year post graduate course for students with a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Naval Architecture from any AICTE approved engineering college in India. Upon successful completion, an engine cadet will qualify for a 6months onboard training as a Junior Engineer on a seagoing vessel, receiving free boarding & lodging apart from a monthly stipend during onboard training. Thereafter, he appears for the Certificate of Competency (COC) Examination (Class IV) conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India. Upon receiving the COC, he is eligible to serve as a Fourth Engineer officer onboard a ship.
